Crap brand and/or bald front tyres causing your car to understeer in the wet.

With the wheel spin your diff is probably loosening up from old age.

thanks for that

well my front tyres are new with around 90% tread on it

they must be shit than lol

well i own a 1993 r33 with 180 000kms

but in the dry it spins both wheels

thats what i dont understand??

you have a viscouse lsd (sorry for the miss spell) means it wont allways catch lsd. so in the wet its too easy for it to brake traction and doesnt need to spin both. though like hamish said it is probably a bit worn (wear will make it looser and wont catch as oftern)

to fix this you could shim the diff which will make the diff tighter, just dont shim it too far or the diff will be locked. you can buy the shims from nissan for about 5 dollers each, you probably will only need one .8mm one. by memery it will take about 2mm to lock it. its not difficalt to do just a bit of work there should be something in the DIY section telling you how to do it.

What brand tyres do you have on the front? Also is the wheel allignment to spec? Because that can also affect understeer/grip. Another factor could be that you have wider tyres on the rear and skinnier tyres on the front causing the rear to force the front to understeer by the rear having more grip.

On the diff, I agree that you should shim it to tighten it up. The viscous lsd's do tend to single spin once they have loosened up over time.

i dont think its undrsteer because the front wheels dont grip at all and slide when its wet when i turn hard

it the dry it grips and handles really good

either you've got ordinary tyres or the road surface is very slick and there just isn't much grip when it's wet. I have RE001's and sometimes find the wet grip to be pretty borderline, I was expecting more from Bridgestone's "premium" tyre. However road surface makes a huge difference, old polished bitumen has low grip while rough bitumen still grips well in the wet.

Rear diff choice does affect off-throttle handling, my R31 had a locked diff and would understeer badly into corners if I went in a bit hot. Any car with a 2-way would be similar but not nearly as bad. Standard viscous LSD will have no effect off throttle, they aren't exactly a tight diff.

    • Yeah I've spotted this one too, whenever it's lotto superdraw week and I'm browsing car sales dot com for my new ride They must be dreaming, maybe it's worth 150k for the link to Brock?
    • 100% accurate!ย  We are a pack of know it alls....ย  But, I bet people go to you when they have a problem! I've been on a bit of a clean up rampage too over the past month!ย  I've thrown more shit in the bin over the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 3 years combined! Anyway, it's all good fun being different! My wife sometimes does not agree! ย
    • ADHD in all form isn't about "can focus, or can't focus" or is hyper active or isn't etc. ย  It's all a dysregulation. Either time feels to be stationary, or time just vanishes in a split second. We are either under focussed on the task at hand (as we're over focussed on our surroundings) or we have no idea an atomic bomb went off beside us as we're so hyper focussed and locked in on things. ย  Not to mention the rapid fire thought process. What it takes a "normal" process to think up a solution to a problem, ADHD will be able to give you 5 different ways to solve the problem, and the pros and cons of each. While we can be highly impulsive and lack the ability to "control ourselves" we can also become paralysed with the inability to make a decision for ourselves. While most of us have an OCD like requirement for perfection, we lack the ability often to remain focussed to get things to a perfect state. Those with undiagnosed ADHD as adults, can often find the last part actually stops them ever attempting to do things that they have the ability to do, as the reasoning is often "if I can't do it perfectly, it's not worth doing" ย  As for projects... Ha ha ha, I still need to take the other half of my wall trim down in the Fiance's office so I can paint it. Need to finish digging and running the back yard drains, my R33, getting the Ninja bike registered (now being sold), the moped project, fixing either of the lawn mowers so they're reliable, along with a myriad of other things. ย  It's why I've been going through lately and just being brutal and clearing projects off that I won't actually ever complete. IE, moped will go to the tip, or be given away, bike is being sold, Subaru project being sold, some parts for other projects given away. Or I've been making myself focus on one thing at a time, by ticking off the smallest quickest ones first. ย  There's also a reason by our mid twenties we seem to be "know it alls", as we've all been down some of the weirdest and oddest rabbit holes when you follow the dopamine trail. It's often also why we're more a jack of all trades, but not a master of one. ย  However, pretty much all of my hobby projects, in one way or another, all come back around to automotive. That's my zen area.
    • Remember reading about this not too long ago. been for sale for a long timeย  this is like when the wife says you need to sell the car so you put it up for a ridiculous price no one will pay
    • You are perhaps suggesting that it is not a super car? Well....it's not an AU.
