HID's are illegal if the car didnt come with them factory.

Legal limit is 4000K.

Doubt the cops would know if you went up to say 5000K, 6000 might be pushing it.

incorrect.

I was pulled over by police before, and they asked if my hid was 6000k or lower, they didnt say anything about how i wasnt meant to have them, i even told them i had installed them my self. They even tested them to make sure there in fact 6000k. WHITE lights are legal... and thats what 6000k is... pure white anything above that it starts to go blue a bit, which is illegal.

As i said before ive had no trouble with my hids in both my ute and skyline. Both of which didnt come with them factory.

Only had trouble when i used 10 000k bulbs for a bit of fun lol!

it is infact a ADR requirement not only for the temperature to be lower than 6000K but for there to be washers and autolevelling projectors. Its because of the washers and the autolevelling unit that makes aftermarket HID installs illegal. If for example you have a lexus IS200 which comes with washers and autolevelling projectors, its legal to put an aftermarket HID unit into the car. For a skyline, this is illegal. I can find the ADR thing that says so if you need me to.

only the r34 has projectors... and from memory series 3 r33 head lights.

Non projector head lights you do not need washers and level adjust.

and its 6000k or lower. 6000k is the highest you can go.

So wot r the legalities when it comes to using halogen `white light' globes? They r not aftermarket HID kits, simply a replacement globe but the globes produce a white light. Also in the link i attached earlier(also below), the seller states that 4000K is ADR51 approved. He is also selling one that is 4300K & he states that those r NOT ADR51 approved for road use.

Just to clear something up. what a cop tells you and what is legal/illegal is two different story.

If you get a yellow sticker the pits will go with that the ADR requirement are

Which are

6000k >

Projector Headlight

Washer Sprayer

Self Adjusting

However this is a funny rule as many car have from factory Xenon/HID but not all the above functions. For example the s2k doesn't have the sprayer.

Just a word of warning.

Different brand/types of HID kits have a difference response time for the lights to be at there full heating brightness.

Which means if your driving and you decide to switch to high beam for few minutes then you switch back to the normal lights which would be your HID there would be a few seconds your in the dark before they reach there full brightness.

If your driving in the hills say at about 100km`s then a few seconds in the dark could be dangerous. I didn't think about that when I put in my HID until it happened to me so I just let others know also.

Police usually don't bother you too much as long as you keep your HID 6000k and below, the main thing that gets the attraction of the police is when you fit the HID but don't tilt the light adjustment down. Nothing worse than some body HID shinning right in your face.

When you install the HID make an effort to make it look professional that way the police wont think its done by some backyard person therefore less chance of getting a canary.

That`s my opinion anyways..

Cheers.

See this is a debateable subject lol. I actually emailed the WAPOL and they told me that they are not illegal, it is just not recommended to have them without washers and wipers. I have 6000K low beams and 12000K high beams, they passed the pits
