Hey guys I have just joined the forum and have to say its great, I am looking to buy a skyline GTR R33 V-SPEC, but would like to know what things I should look for so that I don't get ripped off.

Anyone have any suggestions like common problems that I should be aware of when buying, also any reliable importers?

Thanks

Could always get an NRMA road test done on it... if it's bought through a dealer that shouldn't be a prob.

My dad said something about checking the suspension or something like that to see the wear on the car to make sure the odometre wasn't wound back illegally, cause apparently that happens a lot.

i dont know about NRMA/RACQ, but i got my liner checked out by a performance vehicle mob before i bought it

they identified a heap of small problems that i took back to the dealer and got fixed before the car left the yard

Check that it is a VSpec - and doesn't just have the $45 sticker upgrade. PM me your email and I'll send you the HPI VSpec spotters guide.

HPI had a 'what to look for when buying a Skyline' article a while back. Will look what issue it was in.

I'm sure Ben won't mind :)

Then there's the series 1, 2, 3. These are the basic visual differences:

1 - released in 1995

2 - released in 1996:

slightly different dash

twin airbags

3 - released in 1997:

xenon front lamps

deeper front lip

red-stiched interior

    • I spent the entire of the long weekend going through my garage and I'm now, after 3.5yrs in this house, able to fit a car in. The garage is quite long and the back half has a high enough ceiling for a 2 post lift but it's going to just take too much space and I don't think I'd be able to get around the car if it was in the air. So, in comes the quick lift. It looks perfect. High enough to do most things, I reckon even getting a gearbox out would be doable.  Does anybody here have one? They're fairly cheap (~$3k) considering...  https://www.dtmtrading.com.au/product/quick-lift-portable-vehicle-hoist-3500-kg-worksafe-approved/ I'm also a bit of a non risk taker so I'd probably still use stands when under!
    • Well now we all see it! I did the same. Then cut it out. Then melted half of it. Then discarded it entirely. So... you're in good company.
    • I just replaced the god awful, sagging, crunchy bonnet insulation. It's something nobody but I see but it's been at me for a while.
    • yeah the south island is stunning, the wifes family is from the west coast down there so we were down there for christmas.   a high 10 would be a stretch but hilarious if it happened. fourth gear is its party gear, i don't have traction to throw more at it at lower speeds. I've found passengers don't think its that fast, i think it's because it has a digital dash so they can't see the needle move so they have no sense of speed
    • You have (externally anyway) a lot of patience!  At the very least your patience has rewarded you financially even if you decided you were over it!! I only just read your first experience of seeing the car, that would have been amazing!  Well documented too! It must be exciting knowing there's only 10 months left until you can get it on a boat and on it's way!!!???
