My passenger side mirror has some sort of plastic film stuck over it, with a thin black line that runs from top to bottom towards the outside edge.

The area between the film and mirror has gone cloudy in places, so I wouldn't mind getting rid of it.

The only concern is that there is wiring running into the back of the mirror, which I assume is some sort of demister, but not sure if the plastic film is part of that.

Anyone know what it is, and if it can just be peeled off without destroying the mirror?

Sorry about the crap photo, but taking a picture of a mirror with a flash isn't easy!

Cheers,

JD

That looks like a convex lens that has been stuck on the mirror. If there is discolouration between this and the mirror then I would have a go at pealing it off the the glass.

To remove the glass from the housing you pull the bottom of the glass towards you to unhook the bottom clip then you slide the mirror down to release the top clip.

Mirror glass is either flat or convex (both drivers and passengers sides depending on what system the vehicle was complianced under). My GTR does not have heated mirrors but my GTS-T came from Hokkaido and has heated glass.

The Japanese side rear view mirrors are convex'd.

Previous owner probably stuck it on to make the "Image in the rear view mirror may appear closer then they are"...

To magnify in order to get a closer look at the objects...
