Need Help With Rear Suspension

Hey guys,

Just finish my first service for 70,000Km on the V at Melb city nissan.

Told them about the weird sound on rear suspension when I reverse into my garage (up-hill).

They are not sure which compenent went wrong, they lubricated to see if that make any difference, which did not...

The quote from them to fix it $650, not sure if that's include labour...

parts are the following:

Gasket-rocker cover x2

Bush-rear stablizer x2

Rod-Connecting, Rear stablizer x2

Really have no idea what are these stuffs...

Main question is....would the problem gets resolved if I try to put on/change coilovers? (bcoz look for some upgrade like TEIN, or S-Tech)

If so, what is the best way to start for gather parts? Like springs, shocks, etc...or is there any good kits around? or any1 selling it~?

aftermarket coilovers? are you kidding?

instead of a silent hush you will get a drummer beating drums to the road rhythms.... on each corner of the car...

most aftermarket coilovers are mainly designed for performance in mind with disregard to any NVH issue (noise vibration harshness)

don't do it unless you plan to transform your car into a road racer that rattles and bang on every pothole.

and whatever you do - stay away from those dodgy korean/chinese coilovers that you see on the internet or eBay...

trust me I've seen them all on my bro in law's car, saw him change one brand to another, (I won't slander here) and they're all a piece of crap. stick with JDM brands only and you'll get better quality, but they will be either harsh or can be noisy (especially the ones with metal upper mount)

there are only very few aftermarket coil overs that I know will maintain a 'prestigious' feel and quietness of the original system... my guess was probably Nismo ones but they will cost a fortune, I think what Nissan is going to charge you will look like a roast peanut bargain deal. If you found or have use any that is very quiet.... I wanna hear about it...

possibly other options are Bilstein as they've known to be used as high performance OEM options on some european cars.

PS: Tein are usually known very hard ride, even at the softest setting. S-Flex is probably the 'softest' of them all (the one you can attach to EDFC electronic controller from cabin to adjust rebound setting). Not sure about S-Tech , might be similar to S-Flex, e.g. an update model.

You might wanna take your car to a true suspension specialist. Sounds like your mechanic wants to replace parts by trial and error to try and eliminate your problem.

yikes.. should i stop thinking about getting tein super street after reading this? but tat's the only way to lower my car now with 19 te37 properly..

I've had super streets before on my 34 and they were very comfortable for street use. This compared to JICs which were bone shattering stiff.

Yea, that was the main concern when they says they dont know which part went wrong for making this sound.

Rocker Cover Gasket, did they know that was under the bonnet... bl**dy hell.

Noise in rear end, unless something is broken it sounds like a worn bush, tie-rod or similar, which 'should' be easy to find. Shame the shop couldn't find it, but I doubt you need to go back there.

It isn't difficult with a pair of eyes and not much else.

As for suspension shops in Melb, sorry no idea... great shop in Geelong though.

Pole Position, do some lovely work with Koni's, Bilstein, King Springs and Whiteline stuff...

Anyway, I have a R33 GTS-T with Koni's, lowered king springs, whiteline adjustable swaybars and Strut braces front and rear. Fairly firm and 'tuff' ride but sticks like glue...

Coilovers would over a little more setup variations but will be probably firmer, like RS73 said.

Would love to go for a ride in BLISTC's setup as it looks and sounds good, especially with adjustability, but pretty sure that Coilovers will not fix the noise. They will also not generally offer you the same standard of comfort based ride that a V35 is famed for.

I just want some basic upgrade with out give up comfortable and on a reasonalbe price

My front shocks staring to make some "kick" noise, My machanic said the front shock staring to have small leaking problem, does not affect use but will become noise as time going.

Tell me what do you think, any idea appriciated.

Getting any lowering kit, WILL lose comfort.

Bilstein and Tein CS coilover are rated for giving very similar comfort after the "upgrade"..

Will let u know my experience after my tein super street arrived and fitted..

with king springs, they are not considered as cheap dude, they come on with an average price. im running my car with KS since the start of the year. and im very happy with them on.

Also if they were dodgy, i dont think Australian V8 super car series teams (Holden racing team and Ford performance team), or Team TRD in AUS rally championship wont excercise them.

whats cheap and dodgy is the stuff on ebay when it comes to springs and suspensions. Unless they are a well known brand for a DIY project.
