tonight i was driving my skyline and i was going around a coner i put my foot on the barke and i lost all steering( i couldnt turn the wheel). then i stopped the car and it stalled (its an automatic). so i popped the bonnet to have a look around and it all seems fine so i start the car back up and it runs but there is a loud ticking noise comming from the turbo. so i got it home and i am not sure if i should drive it or get it towed to service centre. can any one help.

OK, so if the engine stops then the power steering stops to, so I'd say the engine stalled as you braked around the corner which means you may have the same problem the wife's car has which is when the fuel goes below 1/4 tank it will stall around corners. Check your fuel level and let me know. The ticking is normal. Simply a combination of valves and injectors.

firstly, did you check the Fluid in the powersteering resevoir?

and the drive belt tension as well.

thats odd that a sound is coming from the turbo..i find it hard to beleive....

the powersteering pump is actually next to the turbo in front.... does it tick when you turn the steering when its stationary?

you might of got confused?

anyhow.....check and let us know.... (sometimes when the powersteering fluid is low....or gone....yes it can tick.)

yeah i have checked the power steering resevoir i did it again this morning and the levels are fine.

i got someone to turn the wheel whilst i was under the hood and its not the powersteering ticking i still think the noise is comming from the turbo.

take it to a mechanic. an ecu check would be a good start mate so thats why i say the mechanic.

But also, i'd be checking the fuel since it was only just filled could be crappy fuel, and id also be checking the fuel filter isnt choked up.

If i had a dollar for every car i saw running off song simply coz no one thought to change the fuel filter i'd have at least $15....

makes u wonder how many a mechanic see's??? hundreds or maybe thousands?

Mechanic after visit - "That'll be $600 thanks mate, she's had a full tune up now"

well sometimes never say never...

but its hard to determin without being there

however, unless your telling us something has shattered?

a friend of mine had a Pulsar SSS with T4 turbo without an air box and whilst driving a rock got sucked in and shattered the wheel.....

but you will notice if it was that?!

Check *both* of the engine A/T control fuses in the kick panel, funny things happen when one of these lets go...including low rpm stalling and stalling around corners.

    • That's awesome. Fully serviced/full log book history for one of those cars is super rare from what I know. With JDM's like Skyline's, Supras, are quite hard to find one with full log book history. S15's seem to be somewhat of an exception, at least the spec s australian delivered models.
    • Hey all, It's been a bit since I have been able to update.  I pulled the fuel pump, first off it was a "universal" pump and the strainer was very clogged, and it was folded over on itself.  I replaced the fuel pump and all is well....  No more stalling.
    • That's convinced me I'll bump up the G30-660 to 770   Any idea if the difference in boost pressure? Cheers

    • Hey guys so turns out this project is going to be much bigger than I thought haha but I've done some my homework and have done a few panels on my car, but one part I can just not visualise is this. If I do a spot repair and I put filler in a dent for example and sand outside of the repair with 320 grit lets say so the primer can stick as I will only put primer on that repair and the surrounding area and then repaint the whole panel. Don't I need to make sure that I don't put primer on the old clear coat? I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down, it's still shiny. I thought putting paint on clearcoat or primer on clearcoat is a bad idea because it won't stick. So in this scenario it's a bit different to mine but imagine someone doing a spot repair and only painting that small section of repair but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat. What am I missing?
