My Car is off the road atm after the last time I went to Willowbank raceway which as I found out turned out to be a good thing as I might have found myself in a very dangerous situation driving anywhere.

I went to a drift night at Willowbank raceway and took my car out on the track for some fun. I did about 10 to 15 laps and noticed that everytime I went to full lock my steering would become very heavy. i didnt think anything bad of it at the time as i thought it was a HICAS issue. Inspecting the inside of my wheel i noticed there was a deep cut in the side wall of the tyre, a good 15-20cms long and it was several layers deep.

As Id spin out my steering was full lock and the added force of the car spinning and the wheels not being in the direction the car was travelling the tyre would rub up against the chassis and brake line mount and cut my tyre up

I have the same problem on the other side.

Now I went for a drive in my mates GTR and was diappointed at the steering turning circle on it, with my car doing a full "U" turn, in the GTR Id have to do a 3 point turn.

Now im just wondering if my steering rack has spacers inside it. Compared to other imports you can see there looks to be more lock.

Now what can I do? do I get different offset wheels, fit wheels spacers but being a street registered car will it comply with an engeering certificate, or would the rack be flogged out?

lower offset, i run rack spacers and every time i go back to stockies for whatever reason i get rail rub, simply because of the high offset. what rims are u running (width/dia/offset) and tyre size.

F 17x8.5 +38 offset with 215/45R17

R 17x7.5 +32 offset with 215/45R17

This is correct and suprised me as I thought I had 17x7.5 all round, but ive never had to change front tyres since I got the car.

Now correct me if im wrong, im still trying to understand offset, but the less the offset the more they stick out of the guards or from the hub?

Correct, Lower offset should push the outter edge out from the hub, I use this to work out what is what... http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html

Putting your rear rims on the front and the fronts on the rear will give you 19mm more clearance on the inside.

yeh switch the front and rear around and u should be right, no guarentees as +32 is still fairly high, but should be enough.

and yeh, refer to this: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Wh...de-t216654.html

regarding offset.

I switched the rims around. The rears look alot better with some of the tyre sticking out of the guard, if its goin to be an issue ill give it some camber.

As for the fronts it sits further away from the strut but it still looks like its goin to rub on the rail not as much as hitting the brake line bracket and tearing my tyre but still hitting that rail. Another thing is now the wheel sits more out there is more lock on the wheel and the tie rod now comes in contact with the lower suspension arm at full lock. When it does hits it, it moves that mounts for the caster rod, changing the suspension alignment. Is this goin to be an issue? I can post some pictures to make it easier to understand...

    • I would be lying if I said I wasn't interested in what MCM were going to do with the NC I really enjoy their banter and occasional collaborations (like Alan from TSF, Ben from BCW, or any of the Haltech guys throwing around their experience), and I have probably watched everything they have put out
    • Not yet, we basically drove it to a private road, got the logs and drove it straight back. I think I need a new passenger seat belt after the mrs squeezed the life out of it.
    • Sounds insane! 🤤🤤🤤  Do you have any vids of it driving?  A flyby would be nice!
    • The prices of NCs are going to go up thanks to you... and partially the MCM guys.
