Swiper the Fox
cool time HKS... wow thats certainly a car that the Japs, kiwi's, pommies and aussies were unaware of and took a bit of digging to find. The Eyre time was widely regarded as the benchmark so it was that time we targeted. Even CRD's contacts in Japan including well known drag pilot who helped prep my car for the time Tomatsu Miyamae believed a 9 would be the worlds fastest. We actually researched it...we didn't just pull it from our arse and this car wasn't known of so we could only go off information that was available to us at the time. i was going to put the lowies back on to beat the Hi-Octane time with a lighter better set-up car with the dog-box and NOS but now i don't think ill bother. I wont get near that time with the single high mount let alone de-powering it with the RS's Ash my claim to fame is being married to Australia's Fastest and Quickest Female Sport compact drag racer ( a record that was set in 2004 and still stands today) and starring in the Jackie Chan film 'Mr Nice Guy'. No poo there. Do Russ and Mark have poo on there face because they are claiming it too?...does Arthur Eyre in NZ have it as well? i guess they do as you are the all knowing all seeing expert on all things. For Mark and i to run the times we have in cars that are basicly modified circuit and street cars respectively is still outstanding in anyones books except maybe yours. Please list your achievements.... Who knows the HKS car probably high mounted the turbo's anyway....lol Edited April 21, 2009 by Mr SHiRTman Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/266192-quickest-lowmount-turbod-gtr-in-the-world/page/2/#findComment-4548373 Share on other sites

NXTIME
Just a few more points: this information wasn't "dug-up" - I just happened to come across it on the weekend and thought it was quite interesting as very very few people knew about it. It was actually posted on a website in December 2008, so it was definitely new information (despite being set back in 1995). I am sure this time was run on slicks and not radials, so both Paul and Mark's times will remain the quickest on radials. Any sub 10 second time no matter what set up is not an easy achievement and should be applauded. HKS's different approach in actually using low mounts in a drag car (and racing it in the Japan RCC drag series in 1995) and achieving such fantastic times is what should be focused on. I was completely surprised to come across it as it had never been mentioned before by anyone and such a feat deserves a lot more recognition that it obviously hasn't received. Roy
For a period of time this ran the 2540Rs ditto.. They were running the 2540Rs as they were the about the biggest GT turbo HKS had back then. The turbos were replaced by GT3037s and cant remember from there Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/266192-quickest-lowmount-turbod-gtr-in-the-world/page/2/#findComment-4548592 Share on other sites

Charlie, the car in Roy's pick appears to be shod with radials and wears BFGoodrich sponsorship. NXTIME
Interesting pic...However, I still don't think that it was run on radials as past top ten radial-tyred 4WD/GTR lists do not list this car. I would imagine that it would have run on radials at some stage before switching to slicks. HKS themselves would have to be the people to speak to for confirmation. Roy
Are we sure the times is for the GTR and not the 180SX? I tend to agree it wasnt until HKS went R33 and got a bit more serious with modding the floorpan etc that they went stoopid quick. I suspect since that chart only refers to engine specs that it may be the 180SX time. I know the HKS driver was driving them both at the time according to the footage i have Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/266192-quickest-lowmount-turbod-gtr-in-the-world/page/2/#findComment-4548712 Share on other sites
NXTIME
Yes, I am sure. HKS USA even states the r32's quickest time as being 8.454: http://www.hksusa.com/info/?id=3615 And there is a pic of it with slicks. PS, the original pic I posted (which looks like a magazine article) says "HKS GTR" Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/266192-quickest-lowmount-turbod-gtr-in-the-world/page/2/#findComment-4548765 Share on other sites
Lithium
I don't really blame Dirt or Eyre for claiming the record as there was nothing in concrete - though I remember back then picking on the guy who was tuning Eyres car when he did the "record" about the fact that its a made up record and that I was SURE that the Japs had done single digits with GTRs in the 90s, but had nothing to back it up. I was sure I'd seen such videos/mag articles at peoples places back in the 90s when I was really getting into Skylines before I had access to youtube and WMV files etc and as such only had vague bourbon adjusted memories of such things. I'm glad someone dug that up, I'm pretty sure there are various other Japanese 90s achievements which would still get people up and paying attention now. We need youtube clips to immortalise Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/266192-quickest-lowmount-turbod-gtr-in-the-world/page/2/#findComment-4548830 Share on other sites
NZM.031
that time has to be with slicks backin 1995... 8.4sec is awfully quick... the current cars and technologies struggle to match that with slicks.. but 8.4sec and the fun is over... all the money and time and preparation is all gone.. over in 8.4 sec.. doesnt make sense to me. Roy
PS, the original pic I posted (which looks like a magazine article) says "HKS GTR" LOL...oops. Oh, and that link. This car is the reason i cant tell you about all the drag footage as i was stuck watching the R33 0-300 and track laps HKS T-002 (modified BCNR33) – The modified BCNR33, powered by the HKS 2.8L stroker engine (RB28) and twin GT3037S turbines, achieved the fastest time of 17.64 seconds at Yatabe 0-300 km/h Test Course setting yet another record for HKS. When it ran 2540R it was of course slower at the 0-300 stuff but was doing sub 60 sec laps at Tsukuba Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/266192-quickest-lowmount-turbod-gtr-in-the-world/page/2/#findComment-4549011 Share on other sites
