Round 4 of the Hillclimb Championships was held at Mt Cooperabung, Kempsey yesterday and Mark had a wonderful time now that all the tuning problems are sorted with the GTR - We owe a huge thank you to Scott at Insight Motorsport for getting us out of trouble and turning her from a splutterbox to a demon in a few short hours on a dyno.

Mark came first in his class, broke the class track record and won "Fastest Tin Top", putting him back in front for the series. Which is a huge effort considering the car was running pretty sick for round 2 & 3 at Bathurst.

The track was tight and slippery (even in the dry) so all the showers during the day and wet patches in the shade didn't help, not that the wet track worried Mark in the least, he had FTD there for a while until the track dried out and the open wheelers strutted their stuff.

I'm thinking about getting one of these next

I've added a video of one of my runs so you can see the track, there is a slow corkscrew bend that is deceiving because it keeps getting tighter and brings a lot of people undone. One of the Toranas rolled over the wall and ended stuck in the fork of a tree. I'll try to get some footage up for you of the Torana (I only have video after the tilt tray brought it up to the pits).

did he say what the problem was with the GTR or just start from scratch? and how much power is it putting out now?

There were a few things, the ECU wasn't plugged in (seated) properly for a start, Scott showed Mark how to seat them properly and also went over some of the different things as he came across them, so you might have to check with Mark the next time you see him.

We were never going for top end power, only ever aimed for low down torque (hence the HKS GTSS) and we have certainly achieved that.

That track looks like fun! Congratulations on your results, well done!

:worship: MARK :worship:

Ps: :) for the piping kit. Just don't get a cheap Chinese copy.

I was getting the one in the photo, its a Greddy ($1500) they are okay aren't they?

That was an awesome run Michele. Well done, the open wheeler sounds great.

YouTube does wonderous things, like re-igniting my need to attend an SDMA hill climb one day! (Finished watching Michele's run, then found Michele's SDMA runs and then StinkyPoo's compilation with SteadyEddie, Chris and Reece in it)..

Great work Michele, I've just had CAMS give me my licence, lined up a couple new tyres and as soon as trojan gve the GTR a clean bill of health I'm coming after Mark's record.

At SDMA that would be Michaels record http://www.sdmahillclimb.com/pdfs2/Records...b%201%20Lap.pdf unless you're planning on going to Mt Cooperabung next year?

Looking forward to seeing you on the track again. We won't be at SDMA again until the 2 lapper because of state rounds.

I think It's only fair I chase Mark's personal record in the GTR, rather then the open wheeler

You said you were going after Marks record, its impossible for an open wheeler to have the SV class record. Michael has the class record (not Michele). If you want Marks PB its a high 45, but the class record is a 44 (not in an open wheeler).

Looking forward to seeing you out there again. Get ready for Bathurst Speed Weekend in December.

Mark what time did you end up doing in your GTR ? 27.989

I missed this event due to a track day the day before i live 15 mins from this hillclimb and go up once every few weeks with my EVO VII

I did drop in and check it out on day 2 i walked pass you while you were waiting for your last run

I'm using your time as a brenchmark to tune my evo to as i'm looking at competeing next year and am sure i will be in the same class as you

WOW 27.989 thats amazing fast cause i'm miles off the mark in my evo running around low 30's ( Non striped )

i'll try and give you a battle next year i'll be training

Guess i'll have to order them Re55's lol

I only just broke into the 27's. I've attached the full results so you can see how the other EVO/tin tops went as well. Looking forward to seeing you around the tracks. Why don't you come to Grafton? It's fairly close to you (well closer for you than us).

If you only do one race for the year, make sure its the Bathurst Speed Weekend in the first weekend of December.

And don't forget to come and say

Thinking about R6 2/8/09 - Ringwood & R7 20/9/09 - Bulahdelah

I've got all the other boys in port to get there cams licence but there all heaps worried about going in hillclimbs its hard to even get them to come out there with me when no one is there

I'm sure if i got a better line on the last sweeping corner i could get under the 30's just

I know what you mean, we're always trying to get these guys involved too... I think we're getting through to them too because we seem to be getting more and more there each time. It's taking that first step that seems to be the hardest, after that they realise how much fun it really is and that its not too hard on the cars.

I don't know what the GTR is fully capable of because we have it set conservatively lower than it can do. The first tune we had done locally turned to sh!t fast, and he refused to fix the problem - but Scott at Insight Motorsport in Arndell Park had her purring in no time (2-3 hours on the dyno and you could hear a difference in the first 10 minutes) I can't say enough about how professional Scott was to deal with and he specialises in EVO's, so keep him in mind (and he was cheaper than the local guy).

I normal take my car to meeks ( evo only mechs ) in sydney which is 2 mins from Insight Motorsport they use there dyno for tuning sometimes :D

looks like i'll see ya at grafton as i've pretty sure i will be competeing

Is there anything i have to send off before event or just turn up on the day with forms and fee ?

Excellent, looking forward to seeing you at Grafton - You will need to get your entries in early... in saying that, there has been a delay in releasing the entry forms/supp regs (I understand they are with CAMS atm).

Have a talk to Bob Wooton using this link http://hillclimbnsw.com/contactbw/ and ask if you need to register for the "Championship" to compete. Its only about $50 for the year and pretty much guarantees you a spot if they fill up (so long as you get your entries in on time). As registered people get priority over local club runners who aren't registered.

All entries have a closing date before the day as they need to print up the booklets with runners/records etc before the race.

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all! • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.
    • Hope the cans went down well at least
    • 255 can't go wrong with the price.
    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything. It comes with a plug... but you can plug the OEM plug directly into this thing. https://justjap.com/products/deatschwerks-dw300-fuel-pump-nissan-s13-silvia-r32-r33-r34-skyline-c34-stagea?currency=AUD Downside: Won't actually flow that much on boost if you want to push it on E85, but it's comparable to the 040/255 etc. Little more actually.
