Hey Guys,

My car seems to idle fine (albeit a little high, but not concerned) but my car is not really running as well as I thought it would.

If revved up, and the throttle is let go, the car will stall. Boost gauge gets to around 3psi, and no more (vacuum leak?).

The car is an auto, has a blitz BOV and t3/t4 hybrid turbo with FMIC.

Is it that I just haven't retuned the car? Or should it run slightly better anyway?

hey... ease up... i had a t3/t4 jobby on my rb25 and gave it a rough tune... it worked well enough.. i used a safc 2, a big fuel pump and pressure reg to pump as much fuel as the stock injectors could handle... then leaned it out with more boost.. dodgy as fu(k i know... but it worked... and the car is still running, somewhere... the turbo let go though.

Crikey! I didn't realize skyline forum dwellers could be as bad as VN owners on the Street Commodores forum. But Nismoid, that was uncalled for, and a little unfair. Perhaps even just plain f**king rude. I have the engine in my VS, the car in a million peices and I can't just take it to get tuned until the thing is roadworthy. I don't have a factory bov, the halfcut I got never came with one! Always check your purchase out hey?! I didn't realize this was a spelling police forum either!

NZM.031 - I dont have the problems with the guards and piping, but I think you guys may be on to something with vacuum leaks, they are so ongoing! Can you get aftermarket plumb back blow off valve to suit the same flange as the blitz?

I do have an 044 external pump and a large pick up pump. Surge tank and rising rate reg. Is there any vacuum lines I need to be carefull of? Things easy to miss?

...ANYWAYS...

What engine is it? Standard ECU?

High idle usually means an air leak.

The stalling after revving will most likely be the BOV.

If you rev it less does it still stall, or does it run really shit with black smoke out the zorst?

Half a million VLs cant be wrong lol.... nah.

Better than it going in a another VL (leh) lol, or it being put in a 240z and desicrating that (whats wrong with the L series engines anyway? ;)).

Just mating a nice engine with a nice body. Seen worst acts in skylines anyways... :)

It doesn't blow too much black smoke, only when revved up, and from the smell, I am 99% sure its unburnt fuel. And it doesnt really run to shit, pretty smooth, and doesn't stall when revved lower.

So BOV? Can I block it off and give that a run, or do I really need a plumb back to do diog? I will get it tuned, but I wont the nagging issues that I may have missed sorted first. SO, just looking at things I may have missed before hand first.

get some detergent and water in a spray bottle and apply liberally to all piping.... then rev car... you should be able to see any leaks clearly.

black smoke is fuel... and nissan stock ecu's are fairly rich

bov-wise.... if its stalling, then you need it plumbed back...

Thanks mate, you have helped alot already, I owe ya big time. I knew the smoke was fuel, you can smell it, but i don't want to turn down the reg lol.

Missed that part - put the factory reg back on there if you dont need injector headroom

just another thing that can go wrong that if it isnt required - stock is fine.

FYI - i ran 350rwkw using a factory reg, as have countless others that made even more :)

Replace all vacuum lines even if you think they are in good nick. (they are cheap).

Try it, you will be amazed at the difference it makes.

I recently tried this on my Stag! helped Immensely.

Good luck!!

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
