hey guys.. i had changed my oil back in feb. Topped the baby up with castrol sports 10W-60, ive been checking the oil quite regularly and i notice that the level keeps goin down. Just checked today as well and there was almost no oil left. There are no leaks or anything. Has anyone come across this?

  • 3 weeks later...

there is no blue smoke...

its still drinking up a lot of oil.. topped it up again about 3-4 weeks ago and i just checked the dipstick a couple of days ago, its gone from being at the high mark to somewhere in the middle.

would it be that my piston rings need replacing?

any else had this happen?

Try running a catch can, it's possible you are losing that oil by blowby, at least if the catch can is catching lots of oil you will know where its going at least. 60w is too thick, i would only go that weight in a commodore with 200,000km+, 10w-40 is more skyline friendly

yea, goin to try that next change, but i already have a catch can installed. i took it a workshop a couple of months ago, they said everything was fine. I know its definetly not normal though.

ok just got back from the mech. so i was rite, the piston rings are letting thru small amounts of oil into the combustion chamber apparently.

Is it worth going for a full rebuild or wud it make more sense to get just the piston rings changed for now?
