Good afternoon everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew/knows about why they dont have the front torque gauge/oil pressure/Volts Gauge on the M35 ARX 2003? and they do have them on a 2001 M35 I checked out, but not in the 2003 ARX

Im used to the GTR guages, I miss them particularly the front torque, im a bit aprehentiuos about sliding around corners without seeing if if getting the split going towards the front wheels, but I cant see it on my ARX? Is it possible to get this info on the screen? anyone have any comments as to why they dont have it?

It was just different specification for different models.

The ARX is aimed as the all terrain vehicle and as such hes different specifications to suit the targeted market.

I can assure you that the ARX has great handeling in the wet with the rear initially stepping out and slowly coming back in as the front torque kicks in.

It is not shown in the standard computer screen.

By the same token that it does not have the front torque gauge, the ARX does have a LSD that no other Stagea is fitted. The LSD is a great aid to the handeling of the car.

Cheers

Andy

Anyone fitted an ARX LSD to an RS or RX? Straight forward?

I don't think it will be that straight forward as the ARX also has HICAS and I don't think all the other models have that fitted.

The ratio's would probably be different also as the ARX is on 18 inch wheels (225/55/18) standard v's 17 inch standard on the RS & RX.

Thanks Andy, however I would unhook the HICAS and put a HICAS lock in place. I'm not interested in the HICAS function, only the LSD.

I'm planning on upgrading to 18's or 19's in the next year or so anyway, so this may be worth a bit more investigating when that time approaches.

the diff LSD centre should fit in fine, the cars are pretty much mechanically identical. the HICAS only affects the rear suspension, the driveline is unaffected.

FYI:

only RS model M35s got the gauges, RXs are in the same boat as the ARX. which i was happy about anyway for my RX

also AFAIK RS Four V models had an LSD.

Ian, if you didn't get the gauges, and didn't get the LSD, what did you get? :)

As for the idea of maybe just inserting the LSD diff centre, I will investigate further :)

You sure about that?

I was under the impression that only the ARX had the LSD.

The RS/RX are practically the same car with a slightly different interior, integrated stereo (6 Disc) and rear seat vents for air-con :) .

RX got electric seats too, umm other trim stuff i think like stainless steel door sill covers, different colour interior. other small shit that i cant be bothered to think about :)

Yeah, I got electric heated seats in my RS. Stainless steel door sill covers? Don't think that was standard on any of the models (correct me if I am wrong).

Do the sill covers have "Nissan" punched into them or are they blank. I know that you can get blank ones and "Infinity" stamped ones in Japan (why the Japanese feel they have to put the word Infinity on their Nissan's is beyond me :) )

Other small shit? Are you referring to the chrome "X" on the rear door instead of the "S"?? :D

yeah that badge makes a huge difference!! :) smart ass hahaha

my sills are polished stainless that say stagea. you only got electric heated seats because you had the optional leather, thats the only way an RS will get electric seats.

ARX also has a slightly wider track front and rear. About 10mm me thinks.

Correct you are Andy. See Iain? Your RX (note, no "A") is much more like our "povo" RS's :)

Can't help the smart ass-ness :) it is in the genes.

Pics of sills?

Btw, black leather seats with a dark interior > beige leather with bland interior *cough*Grandpa*cough* :laughing-smiley-014: j/k

    • Meanwhile, 20+ years ago, I pulled out the 105mm hole saw and went straight down through the inner guard in front of the airbox to get my stormwater pipe cold air intake in. Right behind the two stock holes for the intercooler pipes. Those have no reinforcement (apart from a couple of robust pieces of steel pipe through them!). I feel that the Australian vehicle standards crews put way too much emphasis on "maintaining the crash performance" of cars and not enough consideration of "any crash is a new and wonderful experiment with a random selection of parameters and you will never be able to tell if an extra 80mm hole through some sheet metal caused a significant difference...but if you close your eyes and squint at the whole structure, engage your engineering brain and have a good think about it, you'd have to expect that it would do jack all."
    • You guys are focussing on the wrong part of this post and have headed off on an irrelevant tangent!  Clearly I'm not going to put my most prized physical possession (well it will be once I'm finished it...) on a piece of shit contraption that might fail and crush me or my car!  At no point was that even implied I was trying to buy a butchered P.O.S that some shonky clown had thrown together with a gasless MIG....  Either way I would love to see the build quality of a rotisserie that has failed.  Actually I'd love to see a photo of one that has failed full stop.  Google fails to deliver.  Never happened?? I'll either make one that won't fail or will buy one that wouldn't fail! End Post.....
    • Yeah, if you can't breathe for more than about 2 minutes, you're cooked.
    • Well, all the power should be getting dissipated across the starter motor. Therefore, ideally, the voltage drop across the earth lead should be convincingly close to zero. Certainly you'd want it to be only a volt or so at max, because otherwise that volt doesn't turn up at the starter to do what is required. A car can probably survive a bad enough earth to crank and start with only 9V or so at the starter motor, maybe even a bit less. But you're seeing only 8V at the battery terminals when cranking, so there can't even be that much available over at the starter, which simply won't do. I would have thought that you couldn't pull enough current (with a healthy starter) to make the battery drop to 8V locally. But I was ignoring the possibility that the starter is in fact crook. If it has shorted windings (or maybe the solenoid is borked and shorting to earth) then I guess it could pull a stack of current and not even look like wanting to turn over. So follow the other boys' reccos too. Because they are just as likely at this point.
    • Depending where the whole gets drilled, and what country/state you're talking about, quite likely not.   Under ole vehicle mod rules in NSW, VSI06 allowed for drilling of holes in "non structural" areas. So you could drill a hole through the inner guard, and not need engineering. You couldn't drill over seams, and it was advised to add extra reinforcing around the hole, as well as something to protect from sharp edges.   Again, it's all about finding the documentation for where the mod is to be done, AND then being able to explain the situation, with the documentation as to why you don't need engineering, with a positive attitude, to any one of the likes eg, police, vehicle inspector, etc.
