Hello all, we all tended to drive our manuals differently and i guess I was wondering how you differ in your triptonic use as comapred to the standard manual box?

firstly, you have to look at doing the conversion so that the triptronic gears work the right way around. ie, the should be, push forward to change down and pull back to change up. It is a simple conversion of reversing 2 wires.

I tend to mainly use the triptronic when got a bit harder or when slowing.

It's cut a cut off at red-line and it won't let you change down if the rev's are going to be too high in a lower gear.

I've discovered it's pretty much fool proof :D

It's gutless but on the freeways and motorways I tend to be in 5th gear, good fuel economy. 60k zones normally 2nd or 3rd.

Not a technical response but hey :) it might help lol

I need to b new schooled to this triptronic deal, sold the 32GTR 2 weeks ago, bought the M35 stagea several days later (misses refused to go in the 32 fullstop!and I said dont worry we'll get a family wagon) had my eyes on the m35 market for 7 months until I sold my GTR.

but the triptronic I was thinking to myself thats exactly what I was thinking when i first drove it that it made sense to have it he other way round......the misses drives it with the kid in auto and loves it. But comming back to triptronic, it starts in 4 I wind back to 1 and then take off??? this aint right is it? I dont have to bring it back to 1? or do I? you can just keep going up the gears with out taking your foot. sometimes I take the foot of the excellerator between gears going up so it sounds like manual.

Changing down I take my foot off the pedal, going up I don't. Keep the power going lol

As for starting off in 4th, I could be wrong but I think that is just a safety mechanism. e.g. If your on the freeway and your in Auto, and you need power to overtake etc, you can shift straight across from Drive into Manual shift. If it went into 1st it would not be a good thing at 100+ km/h.

I assume this is why it starts in 4th, just for safety sake.

I could be wrong, but I too pondered the same question.

agree, makes sense....whats the button with snow and snchro, snow is snow, but does anyone know how synchro differs from just having it off?

I can't tell you about Synchro but I can tell you that Snow (from what I've read) gives a 50/50 split of power to front and rear and also does something with the acceleration to avoid bogging down in snow conditions.

So chances are (I assume) that Synchro is just that, a 50/50 split WITHOUT the alteration to acceleration, i.e. the power to the wheels is synchronized.

full marks to Bie e Bee.

Syncro = 50/50 split up to 40 kmp/h then it goes back to normal.

Snow = 50/50 split up to 40kmp/h but starts in 2nd gear and reduces boost.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks Andy,

That's good information :P Not that I will use the button frequently but it's good to know exactly what they do.

P.S. Where is my stamp for full marks?

youd think that the trip box would shift straight into the right gear depending on the speed you were travelling.........

When in triptronic mode the car chooses the right gear for the driving you are doing up to the gear you have selected.

ie. when in 3. If you stop it will use 1,2nd & 3rd as you accelerate. ; in 2, only 1 or 2 are selected. etc.....

It holds the gear slightly longer than in D.

Jetwreck and I have done it, not sure about everyone else. No ramifiactions. If you are not happy you can change it back in 5 minutes.

Bis-e-Bee, stamps cost extra :P

Sooo, do you get hard when using the tiptronic or are you "already there"?

(you don't really need to answer that - mind works in pictures remember!)

Yep, I did it when I did my iPod install.

Definitely worth while.

Have a look HERE for detailed instructions.

I don't understand why you would want to change the direction of the gear shift around.

I felt that it was so logiacal to pullback to change down. Mainly because when driving a manual it is usually the downshift to 2nd that is the largest movement.

Pull back more acceleration.... push forward slower acceleration.

I can get where you are coming form but I for one, would leave mine exactly how it is.

I drove a Falcon with tiptronic which is opposite to the Stagea, and I hated it.

Each to their own I guess.

I really only use mine for downshifting into corners. Although I will say that on the race track, the tiptronic isn't as good.

At first I thought that it was better, but once I gained enough confidence to be going a lot faster I found that the Auto is perfectly good enough to be in control

It was when I wasn't pushing it hard enough that I had probelms of the auto hunting and changing when I didn't want it to. The change on the Auto can never be beaten by the tiptronic.

Once the car is driven hard enough to get the 4wd active mots of the time, then it is a very different experience.

I also have to say that I did it once got used ot it, and realised what a great car they are. But I wouldn't drive it like that again. It isn't a sports car, so don't pretend that it is.

I use the tiptronic mainly when turning a corner, down change keep the revs/boost up for a quick exit.

Other use is going uphill where it's on a gradient that it keeps switching between 3/4 in auto. Just give the stick a tap over to the left and keep it in 4th for a nice uphill cruise without it kicking back a gear.

stage 2 rebuild >_<

does what you say, and holds each gear that little longer, but when flat foot from take off its gonna redline instantly (makes a really awesome sounds when it goes into second though :/ )

then snaps into second and your off again. best thing i've ever done to my car, though i have forgoten, those with a standard box, is there an over drive. Say if you doing 80kph, you can fell the engine drop in power and revs ... my daily does it anyway, well with the rebuild that is no more :D so fuel is a bitch now (high flow will fix that).

when just cruising i just use D, cause sometimes i forget im in Trip, and take off and forget to change lol, but when im in a playfull mode, bring on the Triptonic, downgearing sounds awesome too.

yet to take it to the track and see how much stress i can put the box through, dont really wanna find out the hard way though

you will find that the car is faster acceleration through the gears in auto than it is with triptronic proved that on the quater. At flat to the floor it took to long to change gears in trip tronic.

My C34 Series 2 is definately quicker when I run through the gears in tiptronic mode than auto mode as I can set the shift points, (straight road). The auto is standard and does not have any mods.

Anybody out there with similar experiences?

That is why I and others have changed the M35's tiptronic.

It was originally like the Falcon's, push forward to go from 1st -> 5th, pull back o go from 5th -> 1st... Didn't make sense at all... and sh*t the hell out of me!
