hi

1st i think u will need an international licence to drive here.

2nd ur insurance depends on ur driving history and because it will be an international licence i dont think they will put u that high up ibn the ratings ladder (prob 6 rating or something ) , it also depends on where u actually live as well.

it will obviously be more expensive to insure an r34 than an r33

for example

my r34 costs me 1800 a year

my s14 before that cost me 3800 a year (i obviously did not insure that one lol)

and my 32 gtr before that cost me 2300 (i was still on my p's when i had that though)

btw i have lost my licence 5 times and im under 25 so i do get looked down upon a little by the insurance companys

Oh .. U got a nice history there.. So well actually i dont need an international license as i can drive with an indian license and ya i stay in melbourne and im 19. Does my age also make a difference if im 20 rather than 19 on the cost?

Do u have any idea how much does the regestration cost for 1yr and like since im planning on buying a car how much does it cost to transfer the car to my license...

Thanx Mate....

well

im pretty sure u cant drive a turbo till u get off ur p's which for most is about 21.

rego for a year cost under 600bucks

tranfer will cost i think 4% of the price of the car (or very similar to that)

Is there a difference in rates if you're insuring a gts or a gtr? I would think there is.

i would imagine there would be but when it come to insurance there are many contributing factors that they use to come up with the policy.

19 year old with overseas licence and un-corroborateable overseas driving history in a Skyline, possibly R34 GTR from your questions... hmmm.... I would say, $8000 premium/year + $5000 excess if anyone will insure you.

Dude... get a bone-stock N/A R33 then you might be in with a chance.

Also one-off stamp duty eg., transfer of vehicle is 4% to the govt of the purchase price ($8/$200)

Rego is about $550/year.

Good luck.

Dam, Insurance will be expensive for me.... Well im mostly planning on picking up a R34 GT-T if i have the money otherwise will just go for a R33[Turbo].. Hmm Do u think its possible to get a R34 for like 17k??

Thnx alot for ur reply... You have been very helpful

Just go to carsales.com.au or carpoint.com.au

You can get a high mileage R34 GT-T for like 14k in Victoria, so you might as well get that rather than a R33 GTS-T if it's only a few grand cheaper.

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/result...ng|0&D=gt-t

Pay a little extra for quality/no crash history or if you want it to come with modifications.

Your Indian licence MUST have an English translation. Check with Vicroads whether you're ok. And if you get PR you have a 3 month window to get a Victorian licence before you're off the road.

I think the P-plate restrictions on power to weight or turbo cars may not apply to you with an overseas licence, but the under 20/under 25 insurance excess sure will.

R34 GT-T insurance would be obviously less than GTRs. Very ballpark figure, who knows, $5000/year, $2500 excess? Ask Just Car Insurance or Shannons, or one of the smaller insurers.

my excess is 4700

breakdown is like this

$500 for normal excess

$600 more for age

$1100 more for ofsetting the price of my premium

$1000 more for having 2 suspension in the last 3 years

$1500 more because my car is an import

expect yours to be much more.

Hey buddy sorry for being a newbie but i dont exactly know the difference between the Gts-t,25GT and the GT-t for the R33 as well as R34, Could you please tell me the difference.

What do u think is a better option to either buy a Highly tuned R33 for arnd 17 or buy a Stock R34 fr like 17?? since i have never owned a skyline i dont know..

Thanks For da Help..

Answer is to get a STOCK R34. You do not want to drive a modified car when you're 19 cuz you can't afford defects. Stock R34 is a newer car as well, and less things to repair as likely not as modified/thrashed.

hmm u got a good point there... But can u tell me the difference between the models of the GTT,GTS-T and 25GT-T.. Im considering a R34[Turbo] mostly since i wont have enuf money to buy a modified R34...

BTW does the R33 also have Traction control??

They mean pretty much the same thing, GTS-T/GTS25-T is for R33, GT-T/25GTT is for R34.

As for TC, depends on the year I think, my 1993, series 1 GTS-T don't have TC or ABS, the S2s had ABS not sure about TC though.

As a side note, insurance for me is just over $2k per year, with $2.6k excess (or $2.9k excess if it was stolen or caught on fire) & Im 22, still on my Ps (did my driving test really late), have a perfect driving record (no fines yet).

Who's your insurance with???

Do you really feel the need for traction control??

I have never driven a car that had TC to begin with;

91 VN commodore, 02 Camry & 93 R33 (only the Camry had air bags & ABS), none of them had Traction Control & I have never lost traction in any of them. So I will say no.

Then again, I do drive like an old lady most of the time :/

just cars are the only insurer that would look at me really.

i was a real dumb flamin mongrel on my p's. but since i got my licence back in november i havent been pulled over yet and have been waved thru a few booze buses as well so i guess im doing something right lol.

Thanks man dat was helpful...

because u have never driven a skyline i would probably recomend to get a car with tc.

and if u buy a car with hicas lock it straight away as well.

Seeing as I am a professional in the industry I thought I would bust a few misguided insurance points/comments that have been made.

You do not need to have an Australian license provided that your country's license qualifies to allow you to legally drive in this country. If you do not qualify your insurance will be null and void due to not legally using a motor vehicle.

Your excess depends on 4 factors.

1. Age

2. High Performance or not

3. Driving History

4. Mods

Age excess varies from company to company. Some have females $300/ males $400 and slap you in <25 in age or <2 years driving experience. Others it depends on what age bracket you are in 17-18, 19-21, 22-24 which can decrease per bracket.

Not being listed can increase these excesses.

If you have a grey import that is natually aspirated you may find its not classed as high performance. I get a high performance excess on my turbo'd R33.

Driving history is the big one where they will charge you massive premiums if you have a dodgey history. DUI, speeding fines, loss of license all add points to a policy to decide if they will insure you or not, the more points the more punitive excess you will likely pay. Punitive excess can be applied if you have had too many claims or accidents in the last few years.

Mods are a big one too, add a kit, upgrade the engine, hell change the wheels and you'll be paying a mod excess bundled with your punitive excess, plus increased premiums.

Several companies will charge you rediculous amounts to try to get you not to insure with them. AAMI will not insure R33 skylines. NRMA charge myself in a low risk area for over 25 $2400 a year. I was with Just Cars under 25 and was charged $1400 per year, the same as my old 180sx. I ended up with Suncorp and pay $650 a year and an xs of $1050. I am 25.

Note that the suburb you live in will affect your premiums if you live in a dodgey suburb or a real wealthy suburb there is likely to be more car thefts and accidents therefore a higher risk area, therefore higher premiums. We look at these factors to determine your excess after looking at your age, vehicle and history.

If you have a stock car you will be better off than a modded one. If you are going that path and because you are young I might recommend Shannons, Just Cars or another similar mob.

Just to let you know, Suncorp will not insure an under 25 with a turbo lol. I have R33 GTST

My excesses on my 180sx $500 basic, $600/700 age, $1100 import.

If you have any questions and would like some correct answers regarding motor insurance send me a PM, but I'll keep an eye on here. I hate to see misinformation about insurance.

    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
    • Thanks for sharing this, and BTW if your headlights are in good condition they are worth thousands....you might want to consider replacing them with brand new LED ones like this (https://www.nengun.com/78works/full-led-headlights-r32-skyline) and making enough profit to buy a house in Sydney
    • I'm not sure what sort of shops are nearby, but I'd expect any reasonable exhaust shop could put a cat in it that will not restrict the power that engine makes. Otherwise, if you want to remove it, short lengths that replace the cat are readily available online, search for "de-cat pipes" or "test pipes"
    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all! • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.
