the s14 caliper is average compared to r33 etc... just something to bear in mind.

you can also pick up second hand 996 cup car calipers very cheaply.

I have 997 cup car brakes on my GTR. Initial purchase was fairly cheap, rotors are semi easy to find second hand and adaptors we make ourselves.

Problem with them is the pads are so expensive and very limited to pad suppliers.

The 996 ones might be better though.

None what so ever.

They are pretty large and open across the bridge but the 997's have mounting points a very long way apart. I know John has been using them for a while too and has had no issues.

Before I start, apologies for all the questions but rushing in and asking later has already caused a few headaches :happy:

OK - About to get an AP Racing kit for the front - AP CP 6600 Caliper with 330mm DBA 5000 rotors and Ferodo 2500 pads. Rears will be standard S13 for now.

Before I do get this: Issues with this set-up, what else will be needed?

Do I need to upgrade my master cylinder and brake booster?

Will the S13 SR20DET master and brake booster handle it well enough? I dont know what master the S13 has standard.

Are the GTR master cylinder and brake booster sufficient?

Will upgrading the master and brake booster provide better braking ability?

Will upgrading to these items whilst using the standard rears cause bias or other issues?

Do I then need to upgrade my rears to R33 GTST or R32 GTR items? is it better to run R32 GTR rears if I get the R32 GTR master cylinder or wont this matter.

1. yes, i was running out of both air and pedal was travelling a long way with the 15/16ths master cylinder and standard S13 booster. GTR item is much larger, GTR top standard S13 bottom

I Now run a GTR booster and 1inch master. Sooooo much better.

Remember my car runs a RB25, i also use a custom inlet manifold, it sits very close but doesn't touch :banana: I imagine you'd have more room with an SR?

Yes it bolt straight in, used the vacuum line i had in there.

The booster is only there to provide assistance, its the brake master cylinder that does the work via your foot. Now a 1inch item from an Australian R31!!

I couldn't answer if the single rears would upset the brake balance, if it does ( which i suspect it won't) it all comes down to pad choice again. Put it this way i use the same pad front and back, i have no braking issues :)

Here's a little gem for you. It's a rule of thumb, not exact, but for every 1kg change of rolling mass ( ie going to a larger, heavier brake rotor) a 1kg rotating mass increase is equivalent to an increase in the cars weight by 10kg. So, if your brake upgrade adds a measly 2kg of rotor weight on each front wheel, you've effectively added 40kg of mass to the car.

The ONLY reason i changed to a 324mm rotor up from the 280mm was the rotors were under legal size, so i thought i'd give the caliper some extra mechanical advantage with an increase in rotor size. The above example is what happened to me, but the extra performance of the rotor/pad combo, more than made up for the "increase in weight".

Some food for thought.

Hey mate, is the R31 MC non-ABS? That's an interesting choice, I'd be keen to see if that's the case as I imagine they'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than an R32 GT-R N1 MC

I couldn't be certain, i found it in a wrecker, most of the engine bay had been ratted, the MC was all that was left, but from memory, there was no ABS- don't quote me :)

    • Cleaner signal so timing is more accurate at all rpm also found it to start more on first rotation but could also be I've nailed prime and crank fuel. For under $400 and 30mins of your time, its a good solution especially once the optical sensor does start to play up you won't notice it until in higher rpm and it heat soaks.
    • On a 400hp RB, what benefits other than "it's not 30+ years old" are you seeing from the NZ Wiring Kit trigger setup? If it were me going to change triggering, my belief would be to go for a crank trigger to remove the issues caused by what people claim is belt stretch etc, but that's from my understanding a much larger issue for super high power, rather than those in the 400hp and below club.
    • The NZ wiring kit is a 1/3 the price and will be perfectly fine for your application, I've ran one for 6+ years and many others have. Comes as a full plug into factory connector and the settings for a Link. https://www.nzwiring.com/index.php/product/trigger-kit/ Always comes back to the tuners knowledge and experience with a tuning platform. It takes years to become proficient and learning all aspects and capabilities. I've been using Links for 16 years now (rb and sr paltforms) and always learning something new with adding tables, diagnostics and data logging. Stay 98 for the usability and keep it simple so you can enjoy the car more. With experience I'll give you a current example of the industry I am in. They use Motec m190 and only use VE tuning when they have a torque mapping available and would solve the "PARITY" issues that plagues the category all because the muppet doing the tuning doesn't understand the platform or want to learn it and the product seller have no idea on its full capabilities ( I had a good laugh as when firing up an older car that just got completed and they didn't understand the injector scaling or how to change it for different fuel being used)  
    • I'm sure there are specific hygrometers for it. But if you can just throw a high enough ranged temp sensor (theromcouple that came with your DMM, for example) into a pot of it on the BBQ, you can see when it boils.
    • I have multiple bottles in a shed that gets hot, and I'm in SEQ, so it's humid. Maybe we test their theory... Anyone have a system to accurately measure moisture content in oil?
