I'll hunt up the febreeze and the baking soda sounds an easy one to try. I don't know where to get white spirits from as I usually get them in a glass at a bar :)

I didn't have any plan viengar so I put a glass full of white vinegar and balsamic vinegar in the front and back cup holders and left them overnight. I think it helped as I can't smell the smoke but I can really smell the vinegar! I assume it'll fade. I haven't gotten the steam clean yet and it's already heaps better.

white spirits is pretty harmless to trim

great for gettin grubby fingerprints out of things including rooflinings.

instead of a rag try and use a sponge as it spoaks up the crap into the sponge rather than spread it

on fabric trim i have literally flushed the fabric and kept wiping till it is clean but suaked - it will dry

on leather it is best to treat it afterwards as the leather may become dry over time - but you should be feeding your leather regularly anyway

we literally went nuts with white spirits to clean cars after 3 grubby trimmers have been working in them with metal fab fingerprints everywhere

also removes contact adhesive to beware of what you apply it to

and white spirits not clear spirits LOL

I remember talking to a guy a few years ago that works for a company that deals with BAD smells. They have some machine that sucks out the ozone and replaces it. They mainly did houses and cars where dead people are found but also did burnt cars and smoke smell cars.

I thought he was pulling my leg until he showed me the machines in his ute, never heard of that before.

easiest way to get your car to start to smell nice, go purchase some fabric sofner that's in the little soft plasic, put a few under your seats they last a few months, when they stop working buy new ones and give them to your misses

other thing I've find, (purchased the autech a smoker) is pulling the dash apart and clearning / vac all under the dash cluster etc, as the smoke (ash) just piles up! I found it all under the dash / dash cluster etc! only 6 or so screws

Ah well that seems to be a definitive answer that a 96 stagea never had a filter.

On the topic though, a wet vacuum is a very handy tool.

That way you can really saturate the carpets and roof in deodorising cleaners then rinse it off with the wet vac.

I did that on the carpets and roof and it even lightened the roof liner.

Keep in mind the smell gets everywhere, mine even had cigarette ash under the auto shifter console. To do a thorough job you really need to take the seats out and some of the trim off to reach all the carpet.

i've heard of putting coffee grounds in a tin and that absorbs the smell

never tried it tho as it never smelt

my new (to me) floor mats on the other hand smell when they get wet, even after two trips though the washing machine

might dump some baking soda on them and see if that helps

Nothing really will get rid of it.

But I have done everything, and I mean just about everything.

My car now smells fine. I get the occasional smell of something, but it doesn't smell like cig smoke any more. Biggest thing IMO is first get rid of the interior filter. Second, pop the console and vacuum all around. There will be ash everywhere. Machine wash the mats. I used baking soda on the seats, and vacced it off. Coffee proved unsuccessful. I did stick an ozone generator in it for a few days. Seemed ok. Dunno how much it did. But it is possible to get it to the stage it doesn't bother you. But there will always be a little smell.

    • I much prefer that to an actual oil pressure issue, never would of thought it would of been a volt drop issue but SAU brains win again. Guess ill be turning down the oil pressure limit for the track and hunting some grounds. Ill hopefully update this thread with some high oil pressure and solid ecu voltage logs.
    • You've just discovered a really good reason to tell yourself, yes, I do need to buy an aftermarket ECU. Put the MAF in the bin. Slap in the new ECU and have a think about what turbo sounds you prefer.  Do you want a 90's style BOV wooosh? Do you want a hektik tsututututu?  Mate, can't go wrong. Just gotta get that ECU and the world is your oyster.
    • Hi. Iam just curisou about this topic. I saw this video. It is about Greddy Type FV2. I know that BoVs are about that sound but how and when to use it? I read some topic here and from what i have understand on stock RB with MAF there will be some "problems" if you use this BoV? It vents the air in to the atmosphere and the MAF on stock car needs this air back in to the intake and not out? Or is it wrong? If so...i saw you can put some adaptor to circule air back...but does that not "loose" that sound? I saw another BoV from Turbosmart and it has two "exhaust" like ports? One is for the stock tubing for letting air back and one is for "sound" and let the air in the atmosphere? Can someone please explain? This is the Greddy one:  And this is the Turbosmart.     THANK YOU!! EDIT: So i read about this topic some more and i if i understand that correctly: That Greddy can function either like BoV or 100% Bypass valve? And that Turbosmart is what they called hybrid so you can adjust what and how many air can be vented out or back in? Is this right? THX!
    • That dirty voltage drop is the culprit I suspect
    • i cant get them all in 1 screenshot unfortunately as i just dont know how to move things around tbh, but they are all from the same log and the line crosses at the same point for all of them
