hey ben

im not going rb30 due to the fact that "everyone" does that!!! there have been a lot of rb25/30 combos........im trying to create something new and unique..... :P but dont worry i did consider it at one stage, but decided in the end to go RB26 crank/pistons/conrods :w00t:

Now this looks interesting, cannot wait to see results.

I'm selling my skyline :( but its going to a mate of mine so it will be in good hands. Most money from the sale will put into my project which is gonna suck my pockets dry lol.

Your plans Cara sounds insane... I like them :( will def keep an eye on this :)

Good luck and keep us posted

i'm going to cut my knob off... not because its a dumb thing to do... but because no one else does it!

LOL .... i think the supercharger will appreciate a 3L more then a 2.7L .. takes power to make power!

hehehe more reasons for me to do it :(

ok everyone.

i have decided what i am going to be doing with my R34, RUNVS2 aka Miss Betsy.

No, i am not turbocharging,

im supercharging :P

oh thats right, and no, i am not taking the piss. this will be actually happening.

Currently i am in discussion with my tuner, my engineers, and the place ill be getting the supercharger from to make this all happen. it will all be very custom, and alot of $$$ will have to put into it, but in the end it will be worth it.

Ill be using a 800hp Vortech Supercharger, and stroking my current engine to 2.7 L

Please do not go telling me what i have to do and what i cant do. you will be wasting your breath as i will not bother replying to it. I have my team of professionals, they are the people i consult on any questions or queries i have.

anyway, i cant wait ;)

So you just want to be praised by the whole SAU..?

:D

It will be interesting to see as it is the first time I have heard of this engine set up.

Make sure to post pics and the dyno graph results.

Cool!

lol u know what i mean lol

ive just had enough of everyone telling me what i should and shouldnt do.....bit over it too mbe honest thats why i wrote what i did......ive got my main 3 people that will be the working on the car that i always speak too........and they are the ones i listen too.

I will be following this project very closely.

A few serious questions though.

The vortech style blower you will be using will have an extremely strong power robbing effect on the engine - what is the mimimum crank horsepower that will be needed to turn such a powerful supercharger? The reason I ask is that built supercharged V8's have the torque and power from a larger capacity engine in order to utilise powerful superchargers. A stroked RB is quite small for that horsepower level.

Also using this type of supercharger misses out on the traditional low down power and torque supplied by a roots blower due to its design. Essentially this means that while the supercharger builds boost you will experience lag, just as if you built a RB to 750 horsepower turbocharged. I assume you have factored this into the build and know full well that this type of supercharger provides boost in this manner?

The last thing is that a 750 horsepower engine is not fun on the street - despite what others may say. A supercharged car will have as many hassles being driven at this power level as a turbocharged car - that is handling, braking, the way it will break traction in any gear at high rpm, 500 RWHP with correct gearing was enough to, when you forget yourself (and I am in no way condoning such activity), drop a 150 kilometre an hour drift across four lanes of deserted highway in fourth. It will proabably be a pig to drive in normal traffic and use more fuel than you could pump into it. It wouldn't be pleasant is all I am saying. I take it you know this and have considered buying a daily driver?

Other than that good luck! Hope it goes smoothly.

it was decided by myself long ago that the car would not stay my daily.....i have a rolla for a daily now anyway lol! My engineers that are building my engine have done their research and are building my engine to the supercharger im getting - everything has been taken into consideration. they are a business that deals with race engines a fair bit so i know they know what they are doing.

the boost for this supercharger comes on progressively, unlike a turbo which comes on aggressively.

Superchargers are somewhat of a passion of mine (albeit on V8's) so bear with me.

I assume then its not a roots, roots superchargers produce constant boost over any rpm.

Vortech superchargers don't actually have a progressive power build. If you compare dyno graphs between a high powered vortech supercharged engine and a turbocharged engine theres not much difference in power delivery. The boost builds with RPM until peak boost is achieved. Vortech superchargers don't have lag as such but there is a hole where there is very little boost - too low to counter the power robbing effect of the supercharger, thus creating what feels like lag.

Fair enough then, if its not your daily driver and you have a skilled team on your hands you will be fine.

What is the expected finishing time? I will definitely be checking it out at the next autosalon you take it along to.

im getting the supercharger thru CAPA and have been talking to the same person since day 1. he says the vortech ones are progreesive thru out the rev range.

i am seeing my engineers 2moro so i will b finding out more of the nitty gritty bits of what is happening to the engine!

not sure of the time frame, ill be getting parts bit by bit and getting it all togther that way, and starting up an account with the engineers so i can start putting money away for the engine build.

what it does it matter to you honestly?

my car. ill do what i want. you have choosen to go with turbo. i am choosing to go supercharged. deal with it. in the end its my car my money, and i will choose to do what i want with my car and spend my money how i wish, in your eyes it may seem like a waste, but for others, its not.

    • Haha luckily we don't have emissions, inspections, or any laws against power adders here. They only thing they somewhat keep an eye out for are ridiculously loud exhausts.
    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
