looks like one of the ca18/sr20 dump pipes so im going to infer that its a t28, journal bearing off either an s13 or an s14, more likely an s13.

vl's have the same turbo setup as skylines.

T25 and T28 have the wastegate on the exhaust part of the turbo, not on the dump..

So if its a VL turbo, why does it say nissan motor on the front? Is it a T28 turbo internals or T3 internals?

What I can sort of make out/read:

It has F6.11.22 emmossed on the compressor outlet.

It also has PAT NO 3058787 AIRSEARCH embossed on the back of the compressor housing.

It also has OYJ N5S embossed on the exaust housing inlet.

The dump pipe has 649 @ KN71 embossed on it.

Tha actuator says AS VALVE ASN82-10

Yep, looks like a stock VL turbo to me bud.

EDIT: Actually, it doesn't have water connections does it? The comp housing is that from a VLT, however the core itself looks a bit different as im pretty sure VLT's all have water lines. It's not off an old 300ZX or something is it?

As others have said, the VLT's had Nissan motors in them...

Nissan had their turbos made by the company Garrett, so the turbo would called a Garrett T28 Turbo Charger in which (From memory) the S13/S14/S15 Silvia's, R32 GTS-T's and R32 GTR's used the same type of turbos.

SR20: S13, S14 use T25's with T25 flanges

SR20: S15 uses T28 with T25 flange

RB20 uses a T25 with a T3 flange - ceramio exhaust wheel

RB25 uses T28 with a T3 flange - ceramic exhaust wheel

RB25NEO ... T3 flange - Nylon exhaust wheel

RB30 uses T3 with a T3 flange - Steel wheels

is that correct?

What does a 300zx use then? The big single turbo ones? Much different to the VL T3 turbo?

omfg i got this turbo almost the same as yours and cannot find an answer. mines been highflowed. it has 6 bolt exhaust pattern. my part numbers...

compressor housing has 16v 5 on it

on the side of the compressor housing has PT1099209

on the back of the compressor housing has PAT NO 3.058.797 and the word AiResearch

on the exhaust side it has 0.63 (standard turbo size) then the number 3 and either and i or L or the number 1. its just a line lol.

and also your compressor housing bolts that hold the wishbones on the crown say 7, which is grade of tensile. mines 8.8 which is stronger. why? anyway...

have no idea what its off, guy who i got it off says standard VL turbo. is water cooled. id say nissan just made like 93879238742394 types of t3's for their engines. and just fitted whichever ones either made power or made them more money. gl! and let me know if anyone has the same or whatever

The compressor housing is def VLT T3 , I have one and it's native wheel here on the desk .

Yes VL T3's were water cooled where Z18ET and FJ20ET were not .

If you look closely on that turbine housing it should have 0.63 cast into it possibly on the cartridge side of the mounting flange . The difference between FJ20 and RB30 0.63 A/R Nissan housings was the oxygen sensor location , on FJ's its on the turbine housing and from memory RB30ET's had them on the dump pipe .

That turbine doesn't look right but then again its a l o n g time since I've looked at those Nissan/Garrett T3's .

For the record the cartridge is Garrett and the housings were supplied by Nissan to suit the particular application .
