Quick Release Steering Wheel Kits - Who Has Used? Experiences? Quality?

Well after personally having my old pride and joy stolen a couple of years back, and yes I am still bitter lost $25k plus a years worth of free time spent modding,I have being trying to figure out ways of making the car less stealable. I have heard the old trick of pulling out the fuel pump fuse but im pretty sure the car thieves would be onto that one by now. It doesn't seem to matter what alarm you have they still seem to be able to steal our pride and joy. Now people have suggested removing the ECU but that would take a little too long for my liking to do everytime you park and leave the car.

I was considering the use of a detachable steering wheel kit so that everytime you park somewhere a little dodgy you could turn the wheels towards the kerb, engage steering lock and then completely remove the steering wheel from the car. Theory being they could start the car but how the hell are they going to steer it? I was hoping that looking through the window and seeing no steering wheel would be a major put off and lets move onto the next car type of thinking if you know what I mean.

Now I am going to buy one of these kits as a deterant but was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them? There are lots of cheap ones floating around but im not too keen on a really cheap one incase it fails and I am left with a detached steering wheel whilst driving lol. I am also wondering if the steering wheel would then have play once fitted? Im guessing the good quality ones would be fine as race cars use similar setups and there is no way they would accept a wobbling steering wheel or play.

Does anyone know of a quality brand of kit and how much/ where you buy them?

Any other serious ideas people can come up with to stop the thieves?

cant remember the exact name though.

they use them in d1 so you know they put up with abit of shit. i think a sponsor once had them for sale here too.

I had a Works Bell on my RX-7.

A few points to consider:

1) If you're losing your airbag, it's gonna be defectable and unsafe

2) The day you forget to take the steering wheel off, or can't be stuffed, will be the day the car gets nicked

3) If someone wants to steal your car badly enough, they'll do it.

Got a racespec one on the GTR - it is good quality, fits nicely and works well. And it was only $70 odd if I remember correctly. Far cheaper than the alternatives, and it has no free play or anything like that. I actually expected it to be a lot worse than it is!

bare in mind, if its a type of car that someone knows is worth a lot, they're most likely going to put it on a truck or something then be stupid enough to drive it around in which case all they would need is 4 of these and its gone.

short of carrying 10ft fencing around with you to place around your car in carparks, an alarm and club lock or quick release is the most practical option to avoid your pride and joy getting stolen. Sure, if someone wants it that bad they can and will take it, but you have to use all practical means necessary to thwart them!

Considered a GPS tracker? Its one thing to do everything you can to stop them, but as said previously if they really want it, they'll get it. I'd say some sort of tracking device would be a better option, you can find it and bring a few hundred guys down with you to go get it, hopefully rearranging someone's head in the process!!

it doesnt stop real crooks, my mate caught crips gang members in LA pushing his lowered pickup, driving it with vise grips for a steering wheel and a old chunk of steel jammed into the shifter to get it out of gear. he had a removable shifter and steering wheel.

in the end they got it a few days later and it was stripped down to the shell

no matter how secure you think it is , consider it gone if a real crim wants it

but take all steps to thwart them......a big junk yard dog works better!!!!!
