Miedecke in the Daytona for example.

Miedecke unfortunately had a mix up with tyre compounds and chose one 3 softer than he should have. Unfortunate as apparently would have ended up 2nd outright without the penalty.

Benny would have just gone another 100 metres further into the paddock in an R35 :) Remember AWD is not infallible, but it is a sovereign boon in getting back to the black stuff!

These GT-R's are simply awesome weapons, you only have to watch one launch to see that. A V-spec (which we will no doubt see one or two of next year) would be a formidable contender indeed. I would love to see a ZR1 come and give it a shake. Probably the only current performance car that could give it a shake. Send Jan Magnussen over next year, and Walter Rohrl in a new GT3 while you are at it!

haha, doubt it! Don't you know they're an overweight waddling pig (or something) haha

4WD would help though :)

"Uninformed ? I doubt it. an opinion can never be uninformed, it is an opinion. Read my posts, I never once said the bloody car couldn't perform. Nor do I care that it's weight has not detracted from it's performance, I said, it is merely my opinion it is heavy. I couldn't care less if it can drive up walls carrying Batman and Robin and change direction faster than a crack dealer on the run. Does anybody even remotely remember the whinging going on just a few years ago when our beloved Commondores and Falcons hit over 1600kgs ? 1700kgs is not light for any car. A Lotus is light, an F1 car is light, a GTR is not and yes I know they are a completely different type of car. I have an opinion, I am not opinionated.

Another quote from me.

"Just so you understand, at no time did I say it wasn't a supercar or it didn't handle, by waddling pig I mean it's weight and only it's weight."

IMHO anything weighing in at over 1400 kgs in track car terms is heavy. So, by that measure, an R35 GT-R is heavy. But so is every other GT-R going back to the 32.

The unavoidable reality is that weight has a performance penalty. Just as high moments of inertia, a high centres of gravity, a high drag coefficient & a large frontal cross section.

The other unavoidable reality is that a strong, stiff (the two are different) body structure has a weight penalty. As do airbags, climate control aircon, doof doof stereos, 20" rims etc etc etc. But the car would probably not be very saleable without these things.

The R35 in absolute terms is a wonderful performance car & is priced well. But it can also be said to be a triumph of engineering over obesity. Quite how quick it will be with less weight is an interesting prospect.

OK this thread has got about as far off topic as it needs to. No personal attacks, repeated points, arguing back and forward required, you can all take that to the waste land.

Or I can just lock it if its too hard for everyone to stay on topic.

hey guys

had a quick read through this thread.

the r35 is truly a masterpiece of engineering, yes it's weight is against it but the new evo 10 is 1600kg too.

the main thing at this point in time with the car is knowledge or lack of!

my car broke as a result of around 150 plus launches hmmm. maybe a few too many? i call it destructive testing.

it also went into limp mode but only because i was seeing a missfire in the engine, they also seem to go into a limp mode ocassionally when everything becomes abit busy , it seems to get confused, in good time these issues will be sorted.

i have a real soft spot for the complete mechanical car that doesnt control too much but this car allows an awful lot and is just amazing when the pace is really on.

the devolpment on these cars will be fantastic to watch and be part of.

150 launches?! >_<

What are the biggest areas of wear in the R35?

I wonder how tight & precise the gearbox/drivetrain system will be after a year of hard track days

Kevin Weeks ( Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera) has Crashed out (Taken to Hospital but nothing Critical)....

Quinn (GTR R35) now leading by over 3 min to 2nd place White ( Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera)......

Kevin weeks is my boss, i work for supaloc..

he has waaay too much money, adding to a long list of cars he owns and thrashes is a ferrari 450, porche (for racing) another porch for daily driver, a lambo, and i think he still owns that manaro..

hes got too much money, and buys the best of everything, but doesnt know how to drive them.!

Utter B S.... Kevin was up there battling for the lead with the best, and has been for years

Unless you try driving in Targa Tas I don't think you can make a judgment about anyone's driving ability.

Kevin is as good as any driver in the country in this sport

bs?

hmm, i hear many many stories of him sponsoring his own races and losing many many races,

ive only heard of him win a couple races, one of which was in that red porche.

i wasnt saying hes a crap driver, but saying he pushes himself too hard. and plays with his life a lil.

unless your out there doing it yourself you should not be criticizing a guy doing his very best

I don't think anyone can deny that the R35 GTR is a brilliant and well engineered car. It is amazing how something that is heavier and less powerful than other cars in its category yet be faster around a track.

However, I think the weight is one area that is a bit of a let down. Imagine if it was 200kg lighter, how much better it would/could be? It may be the difference between a really good car and a great car. Considering they changed every single aspect of the new GTR compared to the others, why didn't they just make it a two seater and apply some extra engineering in making it lighter.

If big fat Americans can get their C6 ZR1 down to around 1500kg why can't the light footed Japanese do the same.

Anyway, my 2c.

PS: so I am not totally OT, congrats to T. Quinn and his GTR!

here is some serious track prepping from the states, should get the weight down some!

how much stripping has been done on the R35s competing here? Anyone able to post close up pics of the cars?

I've bookmarked that topic and will be tracking it as this is what I was talking about. Would like very much to see this car at Nurburgring. Let Porsche do as they want when this baby lets loose. :P
