Pretty certain they have inertia locks. So the belt locks if the car stops suddenly, or the belt tries to reel out quickly.

You need to make sure the belt is "up the right way", and just pull slowly / gently on the belt to get some length.

what kind of belt is it?

"klippan" inertia reels have a ##/## relating to the degree vertically and horizontally

ie a 90/90 will be straight upright

39/90 is perpenducular to the ground but 39` from horizontal

ensure it is pretty damn close - you generally have 5` of tollerence

stick it in a vice at the right angle and clamp the bit where the mounding hole is tight (not the actual reel obviously) you should if a klippan or autoliv have a clear window on the side and see the bearing near an orange tag.

the bearing should sit so the orange tag doesnt sit in the reel teeth - generally it will be loose and not sitting still

the idea of the orange bit is so when the car is on an angle the belt locks - there is also an internal inertia lock what when the belt spinns too fast w/o the angle trigger, it will lock under centrivical force

get some silicone spray with a tube nozel and give the belt a good spray through the webbing wound round the reel (wascaley wabbit)

if the orange trigger is released then all you need to do is pull up on the webbing with your girly arms till you get an additional 4 inches or as much as you can - you cant break it - this is what it is designed to hangle, allow the reel to retract *VERY SLOWLY* till the inertia lock releases and you can then freely pull the belt. you now have your belt back. put a block of wood behind the reel of if you had yellow tags which came with the reel - put them back on and do not take off until the reel is installed (this stops it retracting too far again - if it does you remove the wood or tag and have a good foot of belt to play with to release the trigger again) .

But for the love of God do not tug on it when it is not EXACTLY in the right spot or you need a new belt - yoursecond chance of over and you spend more $$$

or take it to people who install belts for a crust

Willshires at 466 south road in marleston will do it for ya - i used to work there some years back

its a 5 minuite job free of charge.

let me know how you go

Dan

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
