hi all, i'm contemplating on a turbo conversion on my r32 gts25, to date the engine mods on it are, tomei cams, 6:2:1 aftermarket extractors, 2 1/4 inch exhaust all the way no CAT, i'm thinking if i turbo the car i would like to use Power FC, but i'm told that Power FC only made ECU for specific engines, eg. RB25DE or RB25DET

I will probably be using a r34 gtt turbo, and manifold or maybe custom made manifold, how much boost can these turbos handle? I'm wanting around 1 bar, would i need to get the turbo modifed for steel compressor wheel for this boost level? if so this would in turn tend to lag a bit, this brings me to my next point of compression ratio and forged pistons....

I also have a few questions about the compression of RB25DE, they are 10:1 from factory, I'm thinking of keeping it the same compression is this ok? if i were to use good aftermarket forged pistons which are made to suit 10:1 would that make it much better for the engine, I also noticed that the factory compression ratio of a RB25DET is 9:1, is there 'that' much of a great difference in this? 10:1 and 9:1 is only 1 off.

any advice would be great, thnx in advance

you can keep the compression ratio 10:1, but you can only run relativly low levels of boost, I might be wrong, but I think it was about 8psi tops, any more boost and you start running into problems.

i think the stock CR for a turbo is 9.5:1, stock is 10:1, as said by skyla.

and yes, it is a fairly big difference, responsiveness is affected. Think of a turbo car in its lag range, thats what it would be like.

SOrry to go off topic, but can you give us any information about your tomei cams likes cost, dyno sheets, the impressive it made on you etc..

yeah im keen to hear what sort of power gains you have made out of those cams. You got same car as me lol, yours 4dr or coupe, mines coupe, i plan on doing a few n/a mods, get the power up a bit. So yeah same q's as nismodified, cost, power etc. Cheers

most of the performance mods were done by the previous owner of the car, who used to be in SDU also, so i think u'll have to ask him, he's kennydead on SDU forums

i think he told me he scored those tomei cams for free, coz he has a mate in japan who works around tracks or sumthing, and when the japanese go race or drift the cars, and sumthing even remotely 'out of tune' they'll throw sum of the near new parts away, these tomeis had only been used for a few laps so i'm told, and they threw it out, so his mate asked him if he wanted it, suits the RB25DE lol,

dyno, i think it made 110rwkw last time dynoed, not sure if that was with all the mods currently on it, but yeah, very smooth driving at the moment.

he's also currently doing a project car, r32 gts25 also , turbo'd it with garret t04E ( i think), steel compressor wheel, running standard 10:1 CR, very responsive, very quick, he says with a good tuner the CR can be kepts high

    • I believe Unimog is the only vehicle that has it (from the manufacturer). I haven't seen aftermarket permanently connected kits, but I haven't looked either.
    • Ha ha ha, can't overthink when exhausted... Oh how I wish I had that power! I can be absolutely dead set shot, and my brain will still go "we need a good 3 or 4 hours to just think about everything and anything before you may sleep... My biggest thing is making sure I give myself enough sleep. I don't operate on even 7 hours of sleep! I attempt to give my body 9.5hours sleep a night to be able to function. I don't sleep the whole 9.5, but I need to make sure I offer a big window. I also take a single supplement, which is to help with long term health, and fighting inflammation, and I notice it helps massively. Especially me sleeping, and just less "achey" in the body. Have also kicked sugar, and gluten. A majority of people with ADHD don't go well with gluten. It causes a really interesting natural opioid overdose in the brain, which causes bodily issues and sensory issues.
    • Yeah that's what I meant, permanently connected not manual
    • Yep. But typically that's just run a hose down to the tyre while stationary.   Oh and the Unimog will automatically air up and air down tyres from the onboard computer for you too.
    • There was a good video somewhere, maybe Kurzgesagt that linked physical activity to ADHD/Anxiety/Insomnia etc. Basically the body WILL spend energy doing something if you don't spend it doing anything physical. It isn't fun, but I personally have noticed I've never been overthinky, or unable to sleep if I'm physically exhausted from doing a lot. The musings around it seem to indicate that this is one of the reasons/mechanism that physical activity improves mental health/wellbeing etc, by more or less not using that 'extra' energy to overthink, be anxious, inflammation, etc. There's also the fact that every obnoxious exerciser ever says it's great and helps which is extremely annoying. Like people who say the same thing about travel being the best thing ever. I mean, they clearly are, but blah. I started doing a LITTLE myself (think 3x15min per week) and honestly did notice the benefits, aiming at life quality when older. Which is sooner than you think. Getting something into your routine that you can actually make a routine has helped me at least. This post brought to you by procrastination between sets.
