Well thanks everyone for coming and thanks for behaving yourselves. I'm glad you all had fun, sux about the few that had troubles, myself included in that. Fatz ghetto coilpack fix saved my day. I couldn't seem to push out any better than a 1:09.6 today but I had fun nontheless. Ando you are going to get that car into the 1:08's, I'm sure of it.

Thanks Dan for you help - sux about the failboat. Cheers for the beers too, onto number 3 now and feeling a little better although Cali is still working at cooking me dinner. :banana:

Glad to see that the hallmark SAUNSW day goes off like it has done many many times before. Such a credit to the guys that organise these days, and to the veterans who lend their time to giving advice to the fresh guys to the track.

Well where do I start...

At 8:30am I was still fitting the harness and bolting it together, 9am I sat in it for the first time ever, 9:01am I put it in first gear for the first time ever and 9:02am I stalled it for the first time ever :banana: I was extremely nervous about taking it out, everything was completely new, had no idea how well the brakes would work, how fast it would go or even how to work the gearbox but that took me all of about 3 laps to work out. I was really only expecting to do 1 session, discover a problem than load it back onto the trailer and watch for the rest of the day.

The engine/gearbox didn't miss a single beat all day at 1 stage in the afternoon I did 3 sessions in a row trying to keep heat in my tyres and brakes and also due to lack of numbers on the track.

The wheelbase is so short and the steering so sensitive that even on turn 8 I only had to put a 1/4 lock on it to get around the corner. First time ive ever driven on semi slick tyres (even if they are only little formula ford tyres) and I found out in my second session that it takes more than 1 lap to get them up to temperature, spun on turn 3 under brakes as the back end spun around on me due to no temperature.

I had plenty of trouble with the pedals, when using my clutch and brake at the same time my feet are basically on top of each other which would cause me trouble when I was trying to lift off the clutch but still apply brake pressure, caused me to run wide about a dozen times, usually once a lap. That's a simple fix before my next outing, just a matter of getting the pedals bent over so they all have their own little space.

Neil thinks the brake pads I was using (ebc red on front and ebc green on rear) aren't getting up to temp (commodore brakes on a 540kg car lol) so i'll get a heat gun on them next time and if the temps are too low i'll swap to a softer compound. The oil temps were sitting around 95-105c all day long depending on if I was trying to chase someone or just having my own fun so im happy with that, although a warmer day my mean I need more air ducting.

The absolute best fun ive ever had, driving a car around a track doesnt even compare to driving this little thing and unless I won lotto id never even think about building a circuit car again, id go straight up to a radical like neils.

PS. I used under 20L of fuel for 6 sessions of 9000rpm fun!

It was a perfect day, excelent weather... you could not ask for more. I would like to congratulate SAU executives and people involved in organising, all was painless and with events kept at a minimal. Excelent ballanced groups with plenty of driving. Everyone drove back home with a smile on their faces....or nearly everyone.

For me was perfect. I have no ideea of my time but does it matter? No one was booked for speeding so that is what counts. I'd love to have every month such successful day!

well done Ben, great to see that you got her out on the track, all the waiting and headaches sound well worth it. I guess driving your car would be a cross between a go-kart and a car, handling and behaviour of a kart but speed of a car. sounds like too much fun. I hope my debut is as successfull as yours.

Great to see you out there Ben, And I think it'll take a while to get the smile off you dial... I'll be watching for the van to roll past Hazo on Monday and see how much it has faded. lol.

That is exactly the way to describe it. The steering is extremely precise (altho it is heavier than I expected) I remember running too deep into the last corner (pedal mix up) and exiting the corner on the dirt so i thought id do a couple of weaves to try and clean the tyres and it wanted to go ass about just from minor steering input it's incredibly different to a car.

The speed was plenty enough for me, I had more in it but was short shifting 4th and 5th because I was too worried about pulling it up under brakes due to my pedal issue. I know I was able to keep up with a few 180rwkw gtst's and im not sure what power Fatz gtr is making but it was a tiny bit too fast for me along the back straight (keeping in mind I have a 85kw powerplant lol).

From memory though not once did I ever lose the back end out of a corner so with more experience I could easily get on the power earlier out of corners, not to mention all 4 wheels are pointing in different directions it looks like the alignment is way off.

Any in car footage Ben. It must be so much fun to steer!

No video sorry Troy, I barely made it to the track as it was. I didnt even take any pictures of it on the day, hoping other people did and will post them up.

It is certainly fun to steer, doesnt have the straight line power to give you a fat but its the overall experience that is better than being in a car. The best thing is that I just unloaded it from my trailer back into the garage and apart from putting the final touches on it (side mirrors, tail lights etc) their is zero that I need to do before I can take it back to the track. The tyres look the same as before I took it there, the engine didnt miss a single rpm all day the gearbox was a dream the rear diff was fantastic it was just no trouble at all and that is exactly the reason I bought into this idea of track racing.
