Damn Ando...now ive gotta do more suspension work to the car if i wanna do 1:09s...sif make me spend more money so i can be competitive lol

Edit - Just got an email from allan...I have to run a full cage but its under AASA not CAMS so im guessing the cages doesnt need to be cams approved

LOL im still not happy with the 1:09 either... i reackon she has a 1:08 in her in current form. Throw a cage and strip her out, good alignment, full slicks (just bought woot), get the guts to flick it into high boost (180rwkw (L) vs 215rwkw (H))and she will be ready to roll :/

the guy that runs the MRA..going to see him on the 2nd of august at wakie to talk more about the cage regs and classes etc.

I spose I should start saving for tyres now...along with the rest of the stuff I need to finish the car, ECU, Injectors, Sway Bars, Decent Pads etc etc

you dont need to spend a mint just get out there and race it

I garantee the biggest improvement to your racing you can make is to drive!

The car becomes less and less important in the begining. Get out there enter the meets and learn to race.

Passing at a sprint is one thing, try making a gap to get through when the guy infront doesnt want to yeild. Thats an art you need to learn unless your happy to be at the back.

Cant stress it enough dont spend the money on your car, spend the money on entry fee's and experiance.

See it way to much guys trying to run at the front with no idea how to race. Its dangerous.

yeah I see your point there Brad...im definatley not about to splerge on a set of ohlins dampers and 6 pot AP brakes atm..

my list there is what I need to finish the car to a point where I want it and no more.

Also weighing up the options of a cheap stock R32 Gtst with a cage thrown at it, and running with that.

I totally agree with what Brad is saying...Need to learn to drive your car and in racing conditions before you go and spend big dollars..You will find half the time you dont need it to be competative and the crowds love to watch an underdog beat the guys that spend the silly dollars :bunny:

what do you need to know about cage regs??

For the MRA if the car is rego'ed it can have a simple bolt in rear section. If its a race car it must have a cage that conforms to the realtive cams manual. It doesnt have to be cams logged but demed safe by the scruits.

Dont get all caught up in the regs and shit guys, get your arses out there and race seriously.

Bolt a half cage in and GO!

There is NO category rules No regulations other than saftey.

I got told by Allan Ross that I needed a full cage. I guess I will find out for sure at the next round, but that is definatley good news for me....now all i gotta sort out is tyres and finish the engine :(

the engine runs now...but its still running the factory fuel system and ecu so gotta upgrade those soon, and im waiting for my bloody dump pipe flange from DKNE so i can get the exhaust finished.

yeah agree. at the entry level the biggest difference is in the driver. no point having an awesome car if you don't know which way to point it. in fact it will be easier to learn in a slower car as you will soon be able to get the most out of it. no point running round in a GTR capable of 1:45s at EC doing 2min flat... much more fun in a car capable of doing 1:55s and doing 1:56s in it knowing you are driving the wheels off the thing.

Brad - Yeah I was under that impression too..but the rules have changed..

All sedans & Mini’s need a full cage except group "N" (half cage)

Sports car are a half cage and all other categories are as per the CAMS regulations.

Im still going over the rules...and confusing myself more and more :) got teh cage sorted out

now looking at the other stuff needed

All vehicles, safety equipment and clothing must continue to comply with all Motorsport requirements unless specifically varied by these Supplementary Rules & Regulations.

1. Seats are acceptable if presented in good condition with no cracks in the main construction

points. Seats do not have to be dated.

2. Seat belts/harnesses are acceptable if presented with no tears, broken stitching or signs of stretching. Buckles must be in good working order. Seatbelts do not have to be dated

3. Fireproof gloves & socks are acceptable provided they have no holes, broken stitching, or have worn thin.

4. Boots (fireproof) are acceptable if they have no holes, broken stitching or badly worn soles.

5. Driving suits are acceptable if presented in good condition with no holes, tears, broken stitching or worn thin in parts. Driving suits if they are single layer must also wear fireproof underwear.

6. Helmets are acceptable if presented in good condition with no loose stitching; internal padding must be in good condition; & deep scratches or gouges etc must not impair the integrity of the external shell.

7. All of the above safety equipment must have been approved for motor sport at the time of its manufacture.

Point 7 is the main one...

Im guessing they mean CAMS or FIA Approved for the seats, harness, Race Suits Etc

    • So where is this message group so we can organise another meet? Keen to come along and catchup. Might eventually be in a skyline again next year, but the Mustang will have to do for now. Also need to get the WRX back on the road. Stupid f**king money pit that thing is.
    • Stock equivalent turbo replacement is a bit of a nightmare. The old Hitachi ceramic things were pretty good for their time, but they have primitive, vintage aerodynamics. The only thing they have going for them is a light turbine**, and there are plenty of other light turbine options these days, in both materials and CNC manufacturing methods. So, the old stocker makes absolutely no power at all compared to its physical size and its (not very low) boost threshold and response. ** and the ONLY thing that was good about the ceramic turbine was that it was light. In all other respects it is a nightmare. To get a turbo that is anywhere near equivalent in terms of power capacity (ie, to avoid it being "bigger" and needing tuning/fuelling/etc) you have to physically downsize. And that is not a "stockish" replacement. Doesn't just fit where the old one did. At least a frame size down, probably need a new dump, probably need new inlet and outlet piping made on the compressor side, new hose connections as D said above. I say, if you have to suffer that much work, you might as well do the same work to fit an even bigger (than stock) turbo, have more power (and hence have to do injectors, ECU, etc), and love life, instead of suffering with stock power levels. Or, you get a light highflow from someone like Hypergear. A highflow that has not been pushed too far from stock. There are still modification consequences here though. HG's cores are smaller than the massive Hitachi core, so it is shorter, moves the compressor housing backwards and requires mods to the air side piping. Plus new hoses. Looks stock, mostly fits where the stock one did (with the previous caveats mentioned), makes a bit more power but can be run at stock boost levels and not cause too many ECU problems. But, seriously. It's 2024. Like - 25 years since the R33 came out. It's time to put an ECU in it. I Nistuned my car (on RB20 ECU then later again on the Neo ECU) and it was the single best thing possible for minimal money. Dial out the R&R bullshit, fix up the fuelling and timing to make it more efficient for normal driving (cut fuel consumption by >10%). Nistune is not an option for you unless you change the ECU, so you might as well just do a standalone. it will be worth it. And then you can tune it up to the limits of the injectors and AFM, which is pushing 200rwkW and enjoy some actual squirt, instead of the lazy barge-like motion you get from a stock engine, turbo and management.
