This one slipped in under the radar and there are a few vague details inc its name .

The thing that's interesting is that it appears to use the same spec cartridge as the SR20 version of the HKS GTSS turbo .

I never could find the cartridge number for that one and it looks like being 446179-5053 (446179-53 in general terms .

I can't really work out why they want to call it a GT2554R since it has a GT28 turbine and a 60mm compressor wheel , in Garretts own terms it's a GT2860R 60T .

You wouldn't have to look too close at this unit to realise that's its housings won't suit a single or twin turbo RB six but its cartridge could just be the basis of an in between RB26 type turbocharger .

It's got a bit more turbine and compressor than a HKS GTSS (GT2859R 56t) and a slightly smaller trim compressor wheel than a HKS "GT2530" or a GT2860RS .

In the right turbine and compressor housings it could make for a punchy turbo on a fairly std RB20 provided you didn't want to use moonshot revs .

Just my thoughts but I couldn't think of a reason to spend so much on turbos that would really only be good for traffic light drags. Maybe hill-climbs or auto cross but as someone in my little group put it the other day, 300kws is the new 250. If a GTR isn't making at least 300kws these days and spooling almost as quickly as stock then you've wasted your money. Even RB 20's are good for 250kws and still be livable, no better make that 220kws for the RB20. Anyhow, you get my drift. You would be getting into the realm of very specialized use. Return for money spent wouldn't cut it.

The point I'm making in simple terms is that these are like a GT2530 with a 60 rather than 63T compressor wheel .

What they would achieve is less exhaust restriction than RB26 GTSSs have and a bit better "spool up" than a GT2530 .

IMO not everyone wants to "idle" a GTR around at 3500-4000 revs so that it goes when they stand on it .

I'll compare the compressor maps with these and whatever 2860 is close to a 2530 .

My apologies good people , due to a screw up in Garretts advertising blurb the turbo/cartridge is not what it said it was .

I'm not 100% sure but I think its a BB version of their GT2252 or possibly a GT2552 . The specs don't match the maps so I'd disregard unless you have intentions of boosting the Micra .

No they wern't wrong as it turns out .

I've just been looking at one of these suckers on a sand drag turbocharged quad bike and it was interesting to see what big G did .

I removed the k&N pod filter to measure the compressors inducer which is very close to 46.5 , that suggests its the 60.1mm 60 trim wheel from the generic GT2560R - OE SR20 type turbo .

The compressor housing is a T25 0.51 A/R with plain barbed inlet/outlet .

The turbine housings on these things is an OE looking offset outlet style with a triangular three hole mounting flange .

It's interesting for a small frame GT25/GT28 series BB turbo because the A/R ratio is 0.56 . Most are 0.64 or 0.86 .

The interesting thing in the hot side is the 76T NS111 turbine which is the largest of the BB GT28 turbines and the one used in units like the GT2860RS/HKS GT2530/GTRS etc .

Whats interesting to me is that the cartridge and wheel combination appears to be the one used in HKS's SR20 spec GTSS turbo and one I've never previously been able to find the cartridge number of . Can now be 85% certain that it is 446179-5053 . If I'm right it means if this cartridge is buyable you can make the GTSS spec turbo up with it and a remachined turbine housing . Another option would be to get some clued up turbo mob to change your turbine and machine its housing to suit .

Always nice if the factory cartridge is buyable for quick turnaround .

One further is that there is another version of this turbo with 3mm smaller wheels in both sides and the quad bike people have - just not here . It will also be interesting for "itchy fingers" to interrogate for wheel sizes and part numbers .

All this is not a complete waste of time as I'm trying to put together a small responsive BB turbo for my dinosaur Subarus EA82T engine . The first attempt is not responsive enough so trying to find ways to have a win without going broke .

nothing spools worse than a EJ20 lol, use a TD04L off that :sick: otherwise i have some light diesel trash in my garage you may like :) one has a t3 flange and a wastegate and is BNEW! WTF BBQ.

I have a Rex turbo but they're nothing special . There is a rare JDM version of that family that does work well on EJ20's byt none of the heros wants to know about a TD04 anything . If interested search TD04"HL" , looks like the std TD04HL 13T-6 but works better on EJ flatulence fours ...
