I cleaned the filter in the tank when I put my Walbro in but since I'm getting a tune tomorrow i thought I'd change the main fuel filter (just in front of and below the brake master cylinder). Its a bit of a pain to get at (like the plugs!) which may be why they are often overlooked. It helps to remove the bracket as my hoses were somewhat frozen on the filter. I cut it open with a hacksaw and it was chock full of gunk! I have also been using a 10% etheanol fuel (Gull Force 10) in my new car and apparently that helps to clean out the tank but all the garbage deposits in the filter. The filter is just a generic item (I got a Ryco Z200) so you don't have to buy from Nissan.

Worst case scenario a blocked filter can starve your engine of fuel and cause it to self destruct so if you can't remember when you last changed your fuel filter do it this weekend!!

putting that on the list of stuff to do this weekend !

Speaking of spark plugs, i am going to remove mine to check condition and mainly gap settings. I could of sworn i read somewhere that as soon as you up the boost to around 10-12psi, you need to gap the plugs to .8mm instead of 1.1mm. I am noticing the power dip higher in the revs, and I am pretty sure this had something to do with it. sorry for going off topic !

Should always gap RB plugs too 0.8mm.

gap size depends on how good your electrical system is.

Im running 1.1mm with 15psi+ and no misfiring. Although I have splitfires and new battery..

interesting.. mine was fine at 1.1 with a 600cca battery, 7ish psi, and stock coils haha

Did a full oil change today. Put in the oil filter relocation kit, and, bugger, it is right over the fuel filter. Did not think about that did I?? Anyway, my filter cant be too blocked caus last weeks series of mountain climbing used 20/100. It was fun.

I might have to get a fuel filter relocation kit. LOL

Incidently what has a 600cca battery got to do with sparking except during cranking??

nice

should grab one myself, to go with the oil filter - same spot for mine with the oil filter relocation

been busy doing my turbo up, but Im seized up in the back now

sux

called a local mobile mechanic to come out tomorrow for an hour to finish it off

- do up oil line

- do up 2manifold bots +2 catconverter bolts

- do up the intake / afm / vacuum lines, etc

and while he's there for that hour do the oil filter (I cant get it off) and fuel line, although I regularly have them changed when with the dynomen

but yeah, disappointed Ive had to call someone in to help me finish the job, so hard being so tall with no knees, asmy hips and back are all rooted now

sigh* :D

Too much carpet burn my friend.LOL

Where I put my filter relocation kit is right above the fuel filter, so next oil change i will replace and relocate the fuel filter.

Oh, the joys of modern motoring.

  • 2 weeks later...

did a service on the wagon today and also did the fuel filter. i can confirm that the Ryco Z200 fits a S2 stagea. i have 76000 on the clock and the filter that was in there was a genuine nissan one so i'm not sure if it has ever been changed. anyway after i pulled it out an tipped the fuel out of the filter all this black crap come out. as Kiwi has said, its definately something that needs to be changed if you haven't already done so.
