Hi guys,

Now that i have learnt more about the skyline im after and u guys have generously devoted your time to helping me, i now have the knowledge that i need to test drive the car that i so desperately need to know more about (power wise). My only concern is, being 18 and still on my P's i want to know if i can actualy get a test drive of one from a dealer. Can anyone shine some light on this?

no

lol unless you are really interested in purchasing a car you like they wont just "let you" test drive a car.

also not sure about weather this is the rule now or not but mate (p plater) went to test drive an ss and being a V8 and him on his P's they didnt let him test drive without being accompanied by his parents or someone with a full licence that test drove the car.

Yeh i thought this may have been the issue, its annoying but i wont have a problem with that i guess. Thanks for that

also forgot to ask will you be getting a turbo or non turbo???

no turbo is fine as its withing the p plater limit so if you find something you like test drive shouldnt be a problem. what i posted above was for a skyline or any car out of the p plater limit

Ah ok, yeh will be getting the stock standard skyline so im legal. Running a bit of a risk with a turbo i think

Nothing legal about a stock standard skyline (if turbo).

All turbo cars are illegal for p-platers and if caught have a possibility of $1000 fine and 3 demerit points.

No dealer is going to let a 18yo kid test drive a car on them selves. They will just assume you are another dreamer looking for a joy ride. (be it turbo or non-turbo)

Go with an adult (dad etc) and then your chances of a test drive will increase.

Else, the dealer wont even bother coming out of his office to talk to you.

What do you need to testdrive a car for?

All you need to know is skylines handle really good, and when you put the foot down in a NA, not much happens.

Just testdrive the car you actually want to buy to make sure its all good etc etc.

Went down to a Dandenong dealer today and test drove one!!! I enjoyed it very much but i got what i expected. Put my foot down not much happened, did notice much better handling but thats about it. I still liked the car

NA Skylines are cruiser. They look good, but that's about it.

Agreed Rekin. On a similar note, if you are involved in an accident and you are a P plater driving a turbocharged vehicle, your insurance company has the discretion to reject a claim based on you driving illegally. Some insurance companies will not point this out to you and will happily take your premium letting you assume you are covered until the big day.
