there's also a certain SAU member who's family owns a wire and cable manufacturing company...

http://www.austechwire.com.au/cable.html

Maybe contact Snowman n ask him if he can hook you up.

My old lady works for electra cables here in brisso. I'll see if they have it. and how much I could we could do it for :(

EDIT: Snowman get it for you?

-thanks Flipmo, let me know. Sent a PM to Snowman but haven't heard back yet, so still looking. Also looking for plastic tee pieces (not sure if they have a proper part name) to clip over a wiring loom where different wires go off to other directions, just to make it a bit tidier rather than using electrical tape. Let me know if they have anything like that.

Thanks again.

Hey guys,

2 things,

1) definitely use Austech cable, some of the best stuff out there.

2) They have exclusive contracts with a company called Ashdown-Ingram on automotive cable. Ashdown-Ingram are owned by the repco group. As long as things haven't changed since i was there, Austech, via AI will make any cable runs you want as long as you get enough

The cable is branded under 'OEX'. They are a big brand in their own right. AI are auto elec wholesalers around australia.

Contacts via http://www.ashdowningram.com.au

If you have problems dealing with them let me know and I'll give you direct contacts to the state sales managers. They are generally wholesale/trade only but are known for doing cash sales.

P.S. I'm looking at their catalouge now, 19 core (colour-coded), fully tinned automotive/marine cable, not sure of width but looks like automotive 3mm or 4mm.

Duncan, I seriously would get in contact with AI, narva cable (which they sell) is WAY more expensive than OEX (even more than hella i think!).

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thats about the best you get, its really hard to gauge amperage exactly cause its amp limit changes with length, quality of cable etc...

The thing with Austech cable is consistency, you know the insulation, strand count and strand thickness will be the same all along the cable.

All I can say is fuse it! And fuse it to match the device its going to (Ie, if the device's max draw is 5amps, match it with a 5amp fuse, don't put a 30amp fuse in there hehe)

Let me know how you go, AI can be a little hit and miss, but they are always good for hunting a sale, just need to talk to the right people :D

I know this was all from ages ago, but here is the summary of AWG(mms) for a given current in Amps for 12v from the link Roy posted. As Matt said the length of the cable matters so this only covers 15 feet = 5 meters = 99% of in car use

5 Amps - 16 (1.3mm)

10 Amps - 12 (2mm)

15 Amps - 10 (2.6mm)

20 Amps - 10 (2.6mm)

25 Amps - 8 (3.25mm)

30 Amps - 8 (3.25mm)

70 Amps - 4 (5.2mm)

I have been grappling with this for FEW WEEKS.

Basically you cant get enough colours to make a coherant and tracable loom from any supplier. Solution? I ended up getting 2 stock looms and ripping them apart. You get the correct cross section wire for everything in the car already.

The lengths are correct for many of the accesories you are going to use. and you can base your wiring diagram on the stock wiring and liquid paper out all you dont want and draw in what you do.

I couldnt beleive the weight of a stock loom before i ripped out what I didnt need.

Depends where you go mate, AI/Austech will make looms to whatever colour code you want, you can tag looms with different traces as well (like white strip on red), it all comes down to how much and $$$ lol

Good info! anyone know whether austech like dealing with the public (ie: weekend wirer)

Not usually (hence the exclusive contracts on Automotive cables with AI), that said, Ashdown-Ingram are known for cash sale :) And their prices are pretty damn good if you speak to the right people.
