Both me and a mate are running small ex housing GT2871R's on FJ's. While I havent had a chance to lean on the setup yet, my mates FJ 1600 has been running 216rwkw @ 16psi for quite a while, mainly only been used for track work. Super responsive with minimal lag he loves it, I'm just hanging to get mine running similar.

something like a gt3076r with a .69a/r exhasut side would be perfect for a mild FJ, should see you past 300rwkw

Thanks guys

I've also been recommended a GT3071R with 0.6AR compressor

Pardon my ignorance as I'm not up with turbo sizes but will these bolt on and is this an equivilent to a GT3071R ? http://www.digi-hardware.com/tr43gen2.html

The manufacturer recommended this but the internal wastegate is optional plus I was worried it was too big.

I assume the std turbo has internal wastegate?

R34, The non intercooled FJ had a .63A/R rear housing on a T03 mount flange. The intercooled FJ had a .48A/R.

As it's fairly well known, I bought the DR recently from Qld and I'm going to use it as a track/hillclimb car.

The sky is the limit as to what you want to do, but the first thing you do is punt the ECU and get an a/mkt tuneable unit, then bigger exhaust, then bigger or more efficient intercooler (bigger isn't necessarily better) then injectors, all depending on your budget.

I think personally a 2871R is too small as I think it will run out of puff up towards the red line.

I'm going with, as stagefummer suggests, an GT3076R with external wastegate and .86A/R rear along with 3" exhaust & 550cc injectors in a custom O'Ring fuel rail. With this I'm looking towards 400+HP at the wheels and then your problem is getting it to the ground effectively.

My only concern with Hypergear is it sounds too cheap, remember all of the Monsta T70 turbos that flooded ebay a couple of years ago, they were claimed to be ex USA but in fact were coming out of China, into USA and then to OZ and they were farked, would not spool up at all. Just be sure what your buying as cheap usually is.

Cheers, D

Yeah Dennis

I'm looking at Autronic SMC or Vipec now.

Would aiming for 400hp create a problem with lag?

:P

Had a rally Mazda years ago and built it with small periphial ports rather than go for the big ones of the all out power monsters.

Section of the rally up the side of the Darling scarp (Zig Zag) beat all the other Hi po Mazdas and the works Stanzas (Dunkerton,Fury) and Works Fords (Carr, Bond)

One rare claim to fame for a poor privateer but taught me to chase low down power too
