Downloaded the trial version of microsoft fsx and it appears pretty good

also looked into getting a torrent version of it but its 10GB and probably wont work afterwards, wasting nearly a months worth of data.

i'm pretty hooked on just the free flights and demo mission(s) and i am a sucker for a good flght simulator.

i've worn out combat flight sumulator 3, once you have done a campaign or too it looses its oomph.

best thing about fsx is you get a whole heap of missions an the planes are realistic to fly - (having never flown a lear jet obviously i dont know exactly how real it is)

so i'm wondering if anyone is enough of a geek to own or play this game or has the balls to admit they sit at a computer at hours on end flying a pretend plane.

i would like to know if its worth the retail purchase price or only worth geting a torrented versin, or stick with the trial and keep my cash for something else.

Cheers

Dan

I would get a legit copy...less hassle

I've got the game and the FSX Acceleration Expansion pack and its quite fun. FSX Acceleration is a must as its not only adds more planes and stuff but improves the graphics quite a bit. The Red Bull air courses are fun and challenging and also more challenging (and most annoying) landing a F/A 18 on a aircraft carrier.

And yes i've gone full geek and done a full flight (Melbourne to Manila) with a number of planes

i'm 80% of the way through a torrent for the deluxe version - only taken 3 days for 8gb (damn leechers)

i'll give it a crack and see how it goes

the trial shits me how you can only do a limited free flight and have 2 misions

i wanna see how good it can be b4 doing a legit purchase - its not a cheap game!

i know downloading is wrong - but at the same time i'm not going to give my money to microsoft if the game is rather limited. same was as if i get a grump at autobahn i'll refuse to pay, dump the items on the counter, drive 15 to another chain and take out my purchase there - its the principle people.

hacked versions are limited anyway as you cant add on expansion packs or online game - which is the greatest aspect of modern games

so in effect it still is a "trial" but on a greater level.

I love my flight games and looking to invest in one of those POV headsets (sound the geek alarm)

still cheaper to buying a real plane though...

cheers for the feedback

  • 2 weeks later...

we almost contemplated hooking a yoke and rudder pedals up to a copy, the I/F is great, if you want to get the most out of flying like a real play, set the virtual cockpit and look out over the front with just the top row of instruments, you dont need most of them to fly anyway and it makes bad habits

me n some mates were studying aviation at school, this is all we did in our study periods lol LAN fsx (Y)

the school built 3 computers to run it and bought 3 joysticks for us:) what started out as us three in c152s practicing circuits at murray field turned into dog fights and tring to land in odd places in 747s blackbirds etc haha

great game :D

it cant still be really expensive can it? think it cost me $50 start of last year from singapore airport?

    • You could probably just go with the genuine Nissan pads, they are not really the expensive, I can't say how they compare to your 350GT pads but at least they will give decent performance. Shims are probably the reason for the squeal.  When I bought my Q50 which runs the same Akebono brakes, the previous owner had some weird pads fitted and it squealed and dusted like crazy, I bought genuine pads and when I put them in, I found all the shims missing.  With the factory pads, the dusting is much better, performance is fine, but it still squeals when cold.  A bit of grease on the back of the pads and mounting points gets rid of it, but it comes back after a while.  I have bought a genuine shim kit that I need to install when I get around to it, hopefully that will fix the squeal.
    • Highlight that row, and a bit of trial and error. Try reducing it by 25% and see if it starts, if not, go the other way. On the newer Kebabtechs that table is in VE which makes it so much easier to calibrate.
    • That's the one I have in my R32. There isn't a bigger battery that will fit an R32.
    • Not sure what you mean haha. That one doesn't fit mine but when I get sick of my one I'll get a standard one. I just gotta find a way to make it fit cause some shit is in the way.
