Ive had my Stagea for nearly a year now and recieved a letter from GIO Custom Car to renew my policy. So i open the letter to see how much its dropped (just turned 21 and now fully licenced) and its gone from $200 a month to $384!!!...

So i ring them up and they tell me i've been dropped back from a rating 4 to a rating 6 caus ive made a claim even though the other driver has taken responsabilty and their insurance is paying for the damages...

After explaining the situation and getting everything sorted out I'm not down to a rating 3 and they will be sending out new renewel form with a new figure...

Anybody else been stuffed around by their insurance company?

+1 Just Car

Buying the Stagea this year is the first car i've ever put comprehensive on. I'm on $1138 a year Rating 1.

With the stuffing around bit, it happens everywhere. Banks try it, Phone co's try it, Insurance co's try it. If you don't complain, they win every time.

Suncorp's repairer told my girl that she would have to source a door rubber strip for her VT commodore (an elderly man T-Boned her with his mint old cortina) as holden no longer make it. They suggested we go to the wreckers..... We kicked up a stink and told em to sort it out, thats what COMPRE-FKN-HENSIVE is. They reckoned wreckers didn't have any, or they were damaged and sent a cheque for $51. I can not believe it. Even if i found a door strip, there is no way i could buy it, spray it the pooey burnt orange to match the car, and then fit it. It's a bloody joke.

Same things pretty much happening with me now.. i got reversed into by a drunk and unlicensed driver while i had my misses and the kids in the car!... the guy tried to drive off until i stopped him and told him id call the cops... long story short he gave me his phone number, told me to call his misses, get her insurance details and make a claim...

On my quote i got my repairer says:

Tail Light - $? (May be hard to source)

And they are expecting me to find a new set of tail lights!?!

Mate, the one thing i've learn't over the years is insurance company's always win... their designed as money making machines, bit strange though that they've penalised you for someone else in the fault... why would you make the claim if that was the case!!

I lost my faith in insurance years ago, looking back on it... should've made payments into a savings account and kept it for a rainy day! Damn... it would have to be up to a decent holidays worth now!!

yeap i got my insurance renewal in the mail today... i saved 61 dollars and they took almost 3.5k off the agreed value of the car... so i got on the phone to shannons and they wanted 2100  ... the bloke told me to go back to just cars and he will send the quote anyway out so i can use it to mop up an oil spill after servicing the car :D... rang just cars had a go at them about the agreed value, they put it back up to 20500 so not too shabby only going to cost me 13 dollars more than the second quote $1537

oh im 23, male, living in western sydney (mulgoa), always garaged, only drive the car on weekends clean driving slab no claims... its pathetic... and you know what really screws us up is people who do insurance jobs on their cars and pety car theives assholes...

our lives are driven by two things, oil companies and insurance companies and they got us over a barrel with the type of cars we drive

My insurance was about $800 p.a. Wrote the car off and the asessor told them it was modified (saw the Bilsteins, sway bars and mistook my LM2 for a Link computer). I argued the toss (drove off the main highway by myself after 2 days without sleep - my fault but that's what insurance is for) and eventually got paid out. I am currently running around in my new car uninsured. I am going to get a low volume compliance certificate when i have finished my mods and then declare them all when I apply for a new insurance.

    • You're not wrong, but more than a few times I've heard of people running into issues where their injector characterization isn't quite right and that approach works for that specific configuration but once they switch over to a new set they discover a whole bunch of stuff wasn't set up correctly. It's slightly more annoying to reverse engineer the OEM MAF transfer function but you already have the sensor wired up to the factory harness so keeping it around for a few weeks more while you figure out the tune is easy enough. I've seen GM also use a combination of both MAF + MAP in their ECUs before, MAF is for steady state and a calculation of the cylinder VE to correct the base VE table, then in transients it uses that calculated VE + raw MAP to determine cylinder filling somehow.
    • I know this one’s the BB one. My tuner did make mention about the actuator. I am curious about the VCT as well
    • Might also needs a stronger actuator with the right preloading. With older 2019 built bush G3 units, BB upgrade or 21U housing down size makes a pretty decent gain in response as well.
    • Hey lads  so im finally putting together my rb30 forged bottom end and ran into an issue. I measured my main bearing clearance with arp main studs torqued to 60 ft-lbs using ACL H series STD size bearings and standard, un-ground crank shaft journals and got an oil clearance reading of about 1.3 thou measuring straight up and down and about 2.8 thou measuring at a 45 degree angle (just above and below the parting line). My machine shop said they measured the main tunnel and it was all within spec (they didnt say the actual measurement) and to go with a standard size bearing, which i have done and the clearance is too tight, I'm guessing because of the extra clamping force from the arp studs distorting the main tunnel. I was wanting to run about 2.5 thou main bearing clearance.  My questions are: 1. could i just use the HX extra 1 thou clearance ACL bearings? that would fix my straight up and down clearance making it about 2.3 thou, but then would the side to side clearance be too big at around 3.8 thou? 2. what actually is the recommended main bearing clearance for measuring near the parting line / side to side. i know its supposed to be bigger as the bearing has some eccentricity built into it but how much more clearance should there be compared to the straight up and down measurement? at the moment there is about 1.5thou difference, is that acceptable or should it be less? 3. If i took the engine block + girdle back to the machine shop and got them to line bore the main tunnel (like i told them to do the first time, but they said it didnt need it) what bearing size would i buy? the STD size bearing shells already slide in fairly easily with no real resistance, some even falling out if i tip the girdle up-side-down. If im taking material out of the main tunnel would i need a bearing with extra material on the back side to make up for it? this is probably confusing af to read so if something doesn't make sense let me know and ill try explaining in a different way. My machine shop doesn't come back from christmas break until mid January, hence why i'm asking these questions here. TIA for any help or info
    • I bought the model back in Japan in Feb. I realised I could never build it, looked around for people who could build it, turns out there's some very skilled people out there that will make copies of 1:1 cars or near enough. I'm not really a photo guy... but people were dragging me in a group chat for the choice of bumper as someone else saw the car before it was finished as they are also a customer of that shop. I took the photo in the above post because I was pretty confident that the lip would work wonders for it. Here's some more in-progress and almost-done pics. It gives a good enough idea as to what the rear looks like!   I have also booked in a track day at the end of January. Lets all hope that is nothing but pure fun and games. If it's not pure fun and games, well, I've already got half an engine spare in the cupboard
