Not sure if this has been posted before but found it the other day.....

question is..... is this to much power. would less power result in a faster lap time. this thing looks rather hard to control even on this larger track... OR do you think with a top driver (eg - Tsuchiya) this thing would be unbeatable.

let the footage and thoughts roll !!!!!!!

the problem is the track and the driving style. of course it's going to be a bit of a handful when you are taking most corners in first or second gear! that is a pretty dinky little circuit, not really suitable for the car, and even a mild track GTR will light the tyres in first and second gear coming out of a corner....

I know its sequential box, but it still sounds like a stocker 34 box on idle, but then again the dog box i had sounded similar to the stock 34 box on idle too..

big cams and titanium exhaust by the looks on that car, hopefully the result i end up with too! sounds awesome!

Do OS Giken make a sequential box or is a OS Giken gear set in a std hsg with one of those ikea formula sequential shifters bolted on?

Does not look anywhere near as smooth as the holinger.

it's an OS88 full sequential 6 speed close ratio box. nothing like a conventional box with ikeya shifter.

OS88 box is a good thing. some people i speak to in japan rate the hollinger, some rate the OS88 or HKS sequential. almost none use the trust/quaife box.

yeah i've used an ikeya shifter. it's ok. not sure it's the best money spent and not sure it really imrpoves lap time. it does mean you wont miss gears i guess. it's also only as good as the box you sit it on top of. don't expect it to turn a standard nissan box into anything like that OS88 above... it also takes a little getting used to at first! their paddle shift set-up for standard boxes looks quite cool too. but again, not sure it's worth the dough.

the one above probably looks savage next to marks hollinger as mark is using a strain sensitve gearknob which activates the ignition cut for smooth gear shifts. not sure that the endless car has that, from the look of the vid i'd say not. they just bash it into gear.

edit: I should mention a friend in japan sent me pics of that car when it was getting built and when it was finished a year or so ago when we were just building the hi-octane R34. It was one of our benchmarks in look, and quality of finish etc. and I think we did even better. :whistling:

Hey Michael I believe from memory that the os88 sequential box is around the 12 000 000 yen mark wich is substantially cheaper than a holinger and it is also rated to 1500hp where as the holinger is only rated at 800hp. But in saying that i do believe that the os88 is more suited to drag racing rather than track use. And there is no choice of ratio's used you get the ratio that they supply and that is it. Hence Richard saying that the diff hears would need a change.

Thanks for the info Richard, i enjoy building transmissions i used assist in running a transmission section a few years ago but we mainly built power shift and some counter shaft transmissions, have done a few road rangers and alike but my experience is minimal on these smaller boxes. I have been considering attempting to build my own but i might have to try something cheaper and simpler first to see how i go.

Sorry to hi jack the thread the car is not to bad for a drag car, :whistling: .

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
