i got my 100k done at a reputable workshop here in adelaide. and they said its the turbo to manifold gasket... how would they tell by looking?? or is this a yeah he wont know its just the dump.... 1 hrs work $900 thanx for coming?? ill pull the heat sheilds off thursday and go from there

get yourself a short length of garden hose and hold one end to your ear while the car is running. move the other end around the area you 'suspect' the leak to be and you'll be able to hear it clearly ;)

i remember your car sounding a little tractor like off boost, what's it sound like on boost? any loud banshee-like squealing?

do you have a boost guage fitted? if you do, what happens to the reading when you're on boost etc

just realised you're on msn... will continue there :P

I spoke with a couple of friends at AJD regarding your exhaust leak issue, and the new wasn't good!

From a labour perspective, it seems that getting to the rear turbo means pretty much removing the front one.

However, removing the intake & shielding should help reveal the source of the leak - they will squeal like crazy on the intake side of the turbine, from memory your car sounded more like a head/manifold leak (i.e. a tractor)

Keep us posted Adam...

Mine went that way. I bought another turbo but when I pulled it down it was broken manifold studs. Bugger of a job but got studs out without taking head off.

If you do find broken studs, a fairly common RB issue, look in local Yellow Pages under nut/bolt suppliers and ask if they know of a mobile stud fixer. I was lucky one lives here on Tamborine and it was $100 to get four removed.

alrity... well tomorrow im gna rip it all apart and have a good look... im kinda thinking its exhaust to turbo gasket... theres no hi pitches squeel... it still hits resnobal boost :S so is there any thing really to sugest other wise? guess no1 can tell till i look :)

ben, thanx for that bit of info, im hoping its not bolts or sum hard to get gasket lol...

    • I haven't....but a poorly made one would terrify me. Surely a good second hand one is the go, as they don't work hard and no-one wants to keep one after they are finished with it A big consideration would be the weight of the shell you are putting on it....is it a fully dressed chassis or just the body
    • Not stock. All remade. Mostly looks stock because the pipes run to and from the standard holes in the inner guard to get to the return flow FMIC. I'm not sure which question you're trying to ask, because it seems like "stock position" vs "stock position".
    • Hey, it's a GT-R, it's just as significant a moment as mine😁 It's not ideal when things are uncertain; I'm the type of person that always has a set plan for things in life so being unsure of this plan puts me in a weird place mentally.
    • Hows your intake piping? Are you still running stock? Having in the stock AFM position would mean, if the BOV was shut/venting out, it'd create the almost stalling kind of effect right // "the rich pulse behaviour" due to MAF thinking air is flowing ? But this would be better than having the bov in the stock position + MAF on/just before cross over piping right?
    • Essentially, yes. Although I wouldn't put the AFM on the crossover pipe. I'd want to put it into what amounts to the correct size tube, which is more easily done in the intercooler pipework. I bought a mount tube for card style AFM that replaces the stock AFM - although being a cheap AliExpress knockoff, it had no flange and I had to make and weld my own. But it is the same length and diameter as the stock RB AFM, goes on my airbox, etc etc. I don't have a sick enough rig to warrant anything different, and the swap will take 5 minutes (when I finally get around to it and the injectors & the dyno tune).
