Looking for some help on getting this project moving along.

Have been looking at getting a dvd head unit to put in my r33, after looking at prices of decent ones being about $1000 i started thinking about just getting one of those mini laptops that run off 12v and get a 7" screen mounted in the dash with a compact mouse/keyboard in center console, that way i can have the net, itunes, dvd ect.

Now, ive had a look for another topic to help me and i honestly cant understand what anyone is talking about. what i want to know is how do i get the pc to get a signal to the speakers?!?, im guessing i will have to run it through an amp as the lappy wont have the power to run speakers but have no idea what i need or how i can do it...

Is there some sort of car pc program that comes with a usb kit that will just plug right into an amp?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Mate, just purchase a male 3.5mm head phone jack to 2 male RCA plugs. You can get them from any dick smith store.

Plug the headphone jack into your lappy, and the RCA plugs into your amp. Obviously you'd need an extention cable as well for the RCA plugs to go to your amp.

Easy as. Bob's your uncle.

A bit of experience from my computer tech days, keep in mind that laptop soundcards are usually pretty weak/lousy as they only need to power such tiny speakers also their snr usually is very low. Give it a go and if it works to your standards that's great, otherwise a good external soundcard would provide a considerable gain in quality.

Check what soundcard you have in your laptop already, if it's Creative you should be pretty sweet to go anything else and at higher volumes you get a lot of white noise and generally much poorer bass response. Depending on the laptop you can upgrade the internal soundcard too but that's a little more complex.

I actually was thinking of doing this for my R33 aswell, except I thought of taking out the laptop motherboard and making my own little perspex case for it.

Good luck, post pics!

USB Radio and TV Tuners:

Bluetooth GPS Modules:

And the eepc isn't a touch screen stock afaik, unless a new model has come out that is? The touchscreen is a mod..

In my opinion, try get yourself a flexible mini keyboard in black, they're waterproof too.. then for the mouse, a track ball? Or if you can find something like an external touchpad?

or... a keyboard/touchpad combo like this?

That was just some quick searching I suggest doing some more of your own, I'm keen to see how this turns out.
