Some in car from WRX/SAU track day at Winton over the weekend...

First up is my fastest lap in the last session of the day....

Next I have uploaded the whole last session when Russ and I were pushing each other to get PB's. Managed to get two 1:35 laps in before the rears packed up and went home - as Russ can attest to the middle of the rears were bald. The 'unintentional' drifing starts around the 4:50mark....

Finally, the off....quite clear what happened, was in 4th at around 170km/h (indicated by the speedo) hit the ripple strip on the inside which upset the grip and sent me understeering off the track. Naturally being in 4th I didn't have the responsive boost to pull me out of it and I was just a passenger. Russ was the car that went past after the white Emo soon after I *eventually* came to a stop....

Enjoy

Not sure you overtook enough cars! So , feedback on the wang? I am looking at perhaps getting a different aftermarket R34 wang to try on the boot lid after my car gets a few more hours on it in the coming months

Without actually seeing the wing, wouldn't it be a little low relative to the roofline if you can sit it just up there in it's own flow then It may be more effective ?

Wing DEFINATELY works, no two ways about it.

First few runs of the day I had the wing set to maximum angle and was getting understeer under the bridge, much Much worse than I normally would with the GTR wing and Nismo boot lip. i did at least 50 laps in this config to make sure it wasn't just new tyres. The rear was much more planted, even exiting the 3rd gear camber change Hungry corner (the uphill left hander that I usually struggle at for power down traction due to the unusual road profile.).

On following runs I backed the wing off to 50% and the rear was still planted nicely, but the understeer reduced quite a bit, showing me the wing definatley works.

In fact, next project (after replacing the broken engine), is to make up a removable splitter to attach to my existing front sump gaurd/undertray, which will end up much like the alloy one on the Pulse Evo.

Hopefully with front splitter I will be able to dial in more rear wing and drive upside down in tunnels.

It is also probably worth mentioning that I couldn't see any measurable difference in top speed on the straight/into the kink (215klm/h or so).

This is the only pic I can find of the actual wing (at auction on the car I took it off).

Some really awesome vids there lads - great thread!! :ermm:

Thought i'd share a couple of my old girl.. Just sold her but got another coming soon tho:)

From a track in in England chasing some very nice Porsches..

From Brands Hatch - this used to be a formula 1 track a long time ago..

Some drifting in Rwd :)

Cheers all,

Sam

That vid is almost humorous ,,, but I can assure everybody there was no laughing at race end.

Bloody crap clutch setup stuffed what should have been a good weekend.

I contemplated doing a change over night for about 10 seconds but Wakie in winter would kill us both.

Neil.

Oh ok, see that wing in itself looks to be fairly high, glad to hear it's giving you a real tangible difference to feel and time too as you often see people wasting money and going backwards with aero, I thought i'de just clarify what I said as I wasn't having a dig :) what i was trying to say that if the wing is higher up in the airflow, you may be able to develop similar levels of downforce with a less aggressive angle of attack, of course I'm only talking theoretically often what we learn at uni means shit in RL :D.

yeah hyraulics were fine. This was a brand new clutch to replace the old one which used to slip if I launched over 6000 (as it did at PI that day). Not exactly what I was expecting.

BTW I agree Marlin that wing would be effective. It is at the perfect hight to push around a car with an empty engine bay
