People always say they don't trust certain brands without ever actually having a genuine bad experience with them, and those that have usually are due to user error or other factors. Any decent brand name oil filter is going to be the same as any other. In most cases Nissan and other car company's just relable/rebrand another brand of filter.

I've been using the Ryco 145A's in my R33 since I got it, 40,000km's ago and I've never had an issue. They're around $10 from supercheap auto, repco or any other shop.

Ive been selling parts for almost 10 years now. I get Ryco, Cooper, Donaldson etc at cost price. Yet for my love, for the car i care for. I wouldnt put anything on but genuine.

Ive had Ryco filters come back that have split from their housing eg. they wont screw on.

Im not saying i hate Ryco, but if you want quality just get a genuine Nissan one.
