Engine Done 6000kms And Has Spun A Bearing R32 Gtr

Recommended Posts

Hi can some one help. I have a 1990 r32 gtr i have rebuilt engine with argo forgies argo billet rods and acl race bearings. Engine has been goin sweet untill last nite. standard but but had it checked before re assembly

Oil gauge has never read right been told is a common problem

Question do 32 gtr have an oil pressure light if yes mine must not be working?

Boosted to 16psi racing some1 end of race car making big knocking noise have had in diagnosed and yes it has done a big end.

Have not tested oil pressure on mechanical gauge.

So what would be th most likely cause of oil pressure loss in these cars.

What is the soloution to this problem?

What is easiest method of removing the sump. A dropping cross memeber or engine removal.

one more question if they do have oil pressure light does it come on when ignition is frist turned on.

the oil light should come on when you turn the ignition on before starting.

and the gtrs are common to have oil pressure problems. i blew my oil pump ( common to go ) and i had to remove the sump to do so.

and to remove the sump you have to take out the gearbox as bolts are inside which are hard to get. i took out motor and box.

and 16 psi is alot i heard to be running on standard turbos.

This is all true mate . Often the oil pressure sender will fail and read low pressure (very common as said and oil light is on guage unless bulb is shot) You still getting pressure afterward? I hate hearing this with fellow rb owners but its nearly a fact of life... if you rebuild it... replace the oil pump. and /or crank collar with early r32 engines. Oil light should come up during ignition start up. Easiest way to remove oil pump is remove engine...remove sump. You've probly heard it before but oil pressure is utmost important and i wouldn't touch a car fo any sort of maintenance if it was reading an abnormal oil pressure. I wouldn't even drive a car if i thought something was suss! All in all from what you've indicated as the cause a spun bearing requires a bottom end rebuild anyway. sorry to hear.

bad luck mate, that sux :( hope u can get it fixed without too many hassles..

can I just ask, as Im looking at possibilities of forging my own engine... what makes a recently rebuilt motor with stronger internals sh*t itself and not even reach 10,000kms? I thought they would last after being forgedt?

gl with it mate.

There's probably a lot of things that will make it go before you hit 10000k's.

Including, but not limited to:

Oil problems

bad assembly

shit getting into the engine while your rebuilding it (aka, metal flakes etc)

    • Yes sir, that was me. Fake ARP's are also a thing over here in Canada and we only order from reputable dealers. It's sad that even simple things like bolts and hoses are now also being copied... anything to make a dollar.  Story time. Like all cheap crap from China, it's even an issue with firearms. Roughly 15 years ago, I purchased a new cheap Norinco 12g shotgun. First time out in the bush with it, while firing, bolt assembly didn't lock and it fired out of battery. The receiver also being cheap steel, basically exploded in my face. I was lucky to be wearing eye protection. Long story short, don't buy Chinese junk. Also Norinco being state run and their only military arms producer, if ever they do try and take over a country, don't worry about it lol.
    • Installed  Nismo coppermix twin competition spec last year in my bnr32 with pull trans with Oem slave cylinder. The point at where the clutch disengages/enages is right at the top of the clutch pedal, meaning I barely have to push the pedal down for the clutch to be disengaged.  You guys that have the same combo are you experiencing this high pedal bite point??   Secondly I’d like to have the disengagement point lower meaning I have to push the pedal more(further not effort)for it to be disengaged.  I’m thinking to use a Nismo big operating cylinder(bigger bore at 13/16 vs Oem 3/4) which will require more pedal stroke to get the equivalent movement at the clutch fork. But I see Nismo web site says not to mix these 2 as the Nismo big operating cylinder doesn’t have enough stroke to disengage??? Any folks run both the coppermix twin pull with Nismo cylinder??    Thanks in advance for the replies but prefer only guys with pull clutches to respond. thanks
    • Any chance u could let us know where your based ?
    • That’s a great deal and I would jump on it if you were closer. Melbourne is a bit of a hike for me though unfortunately
