Interested to see if anyone has run their R35 at Eastern Creek Circuit? if so, interested in your lap times. I am heading out there and need a benchmark. Thoughts? the car is 100% stock, except for RE55's

Would also be interested .....as some of the Lotus boys have had an encounter with an R35 there and said they could stick (in the corners) with it ...(with the aid of some traffic..)

I did the track day last Wednesday, with no camber, street setup I started out with consistent 1:48, however best lap of the day was 1:46.8.

The purpose was to bench mark the car ready for the mods to start.

The 1:46.8 was a relatively clean lap, however a little traffic in the back section, probably could have shaved another 1/2 a second off with a clean track.

Cheers,

Jeff

Interesting Jeff, thanks.

What tyres?

Btw what have you been told about street vs track setup (in terms of camber) i heard there is next to nothing in it. Maybe .2 to .4 of a degree for a total of about 1.7* - personally i think it's almost a waste of time. I am looking into an upper control arm mod to get some decent camber.

ps. how much speed were you carrying down the front straight, and then into turn 1 approx?

I am running the factory bridgestones. Top speed down the straight was 241km, but 90% of the time it was more like 235 - 237km/h. Turn 1 I started at 170km/h and slowly built it to 182km/h, late in the sessions the tyres got a bit hot and limited it to 175km/h. The car really drifted from the inside line out, but I think I was a little cautious and could have pushed into the higher 180's, it was the first outing for the R35 at the track and I still need to find the limits of this car more.

I am heading out again on the 24th June, hopefully with new wheels and more camber, it really took its toll on the front right and the camber would have helped alot.

Sounds like you did well Gibbo, nice work. Did you use 6th gear on the main straight?

I experimented with 6th but it was too much, 5th worked well with a down shift to 4th on the entry to turn 1 to settle the car.

I would love to hear what times you end up doing with your set up, I have been following your threads to get ideas for my set up.

Cheers,

Jeff

depends on driver. but if you are a competent amateur I would aim for a 1:50. how far under 1:50 just depends on how comfortable you are at EC and with the car. By amateur I mean non-professional driver, ie enthusiast.

You had some good times for the first time out Jeff. 1:46 is fairly moving. just another demonstration of how capable they are for a stock road car. 240 on the straight is pretty rapid too. :P

Jeff, i managed a 1:45.4 at practice last week however that was a) with a few clean laps and b) RE55's

I have the GPS/Driftbox data, so if you have same we could compare.

I havent tried the stocker bridgestones, and the be frank i dont think i could manage a 1:46.x with them really, so i think you're doing well with a 1:46.8 (easily better than i :/). FWIW, i could only manage about 235km/hr on the straight, i think the gearing of the 18" track wheels doesnt help for such a long straight. On another note, the highest speed i was doing through turn one was about 170km/hr. I havent done many laps of EC, i need to grow some balls for turn one :D - that is hurting my times big time.

I think there should be a mid-1:44 in it with fresh 55's and some clear track, perhaps better. I just need to grow some gonads for turn one. We had a supersprint on Sunday and the best i could manage was a 1:46.7. I had 5 sessions all day (15 laps, 3 hot laps per session) and for most of the laps i was held up. For those two or three clean laps, i just didnt make them count. I just couldnt match the time from practice. Maybe next time

Anyway the car held up good and tranny temps seemed quite manageable within the supersprint format.

I also swapped out my pads for some Carbotech XP12'and to be frank, i don't think it was worth it. The brakes felf spongy and just less progressive than the stocker pads. But that's another story.

The 145.4 is an awesome time especially if that is your first trip to the track. I have done close to 1000 laps over the years of the creek, in everything from RX-8's through to the GTR. I am hoping to have the new wheels and tyres ready for the 24th June, there will be another 2 GTR's out there also. One heavily modded.

The most I saw on the transmission was 125, however it is at that point I did a cool down lap and came into the pits, I reached that after about 6 hot laps.

I borrowed the drift box for the day, however I will be buying one very soon.

Cheers,

Jeff

thanks Jeff. Whilst i havent done many laps at EC, it wasn't my first time there (it was in this car though). I think i've done 1000+ laps of Wakefield though, where i managed a low 1:05

What's happening on June 24? and what track wheels/tyres are you going with?

Edited by LSX-438

mid 40's @ the creek is seriously quick - when i was racing bikes (250 production) most guys couldnt crack into the low 50's.

bigger bikes would pull quicker times...my PB was 1:39 (also did a 1:37 but not confirmed)

Duncan, was a great day, first trouble free round this year for us!

Run 4 was a bit much for the already over it Dunlops.

As first time at Eastern Creek in R32, was reasonably happy with a 1.45.9. >_< Still sorting some minor issue's, but considering last run at track was in 94 in a Torana Club Car and 1st outright with a 1.49.85.

Go the Nissan's

Congrat's to Jason 888 and John 94 in SV.

Wow thats mad that R35 gtr do times around the same as crazy modded Evos

1.45 to 1.48's in a evo, normal means 260kw at the wheels striped Re55's full coilovers and sways and bracing and upgrade brakes and someone that has been there tons of times and is a good driver

Nice can't wait to see these things have work done to them

Ahh Stuart!

Yes i am currently uploading some interesting video of our little run... you freaked me out with two wheels on the dirt after turn 1, i thought you were going to turn the car around for sure. Keep a look out for the video soon, i have it all on tape!

I did 1:45.2 last Sunday in my Evo9 >_<

It has full interior and 235KW and it is a daily driver (OK I was running slicks)

Can't wait for my GTR - one month to go
