out of curiosity, whats the go with the hand held ones? do the coppers get in the car and come after you or do the camera thingys hav a photo taker? i see them all the time and it just looks like a waste of time...

If it's in town they'll have gotten your reading from a certain distance off, and then they'll stand in the road and wave you to pull over when you reach them.

In some cases they have more cops waiting up ahead that do the pulling over (used to do it this way anyway, not sure if they still do) after the radar cops let them know.

On the highway however, they'll sit inside the car, using it out the window (or using the one mounted to the side of the car), and then they'll chase you and pull you over.

The subject of speed cameras came up at work as it seemed many had been booked in the last month.

What was interesting was that someone was booked on the monaro highway near the roundabout for 85 in the 80 zone.

Maybe the lack of government funding due to the financual crisis has encouraged them to reduce the tolerance to 5%.

I'm sure this has probably been said earlier in this thread, but I'm far too tired to read back only to find out it hasn't lol, but is it true that motorcycles won't be done by the vans due to not having a front number plate for the photo?
