Water Pump ... Help !

Recommended Posts

Just bought another 33, and am doing the 100K service,,

the pump I got from Bursons is the wrong type,,

The one on the car has the larger impeller, but, it also has one hole (the small 10mm bolt) at a different position,,

Which pump do I have?

Any help fromthe pro's please?

VL Commodore water pump, off the RB30, is a direct replacement for the one on the RB25DET. Cost me about AUD 80 from Repco when I had the 100k service done on my R33. The GT-R timing belt was also a direct fit...

Yer the pump they gave me is the RB30/ RB25 pump, but mine has the larger impeller and the 10mm bolt holt is 5-6mm further left than the replacement pump that they gave me,,

They tell me that this pump is not available and that I will need to get mine reconditioned,,

Has anybody else had this problem?

Does the GTR pump have this variation on the bolt holes?

hold on.....before you come to conclusions....................................

get more opinions rather than 1 person before you make a decision

its important for you...... to read through this post....

someone has actually compared it.....

some of the bolt holes dont actually line up

but the RB26dett actually works on all RB engines.

and a person has posted trying an RB25 and 26 pump on his RB30.....and one hole did not line up.......

becareful

these OPS would be the people to PM....

haha that was the thread i had up about a month ago - went to alot of trouble researching pumps hahah

i got 2 pumps here for sale, one of which im pretty certain will fit your car

$28 express posted

used but havent been used for very long as i too used the wrong pump, hence had to take out the one a mechanic replaced (he used a R33 one grrr) and put in a genuine r34 one

see my signature, can include the gates heavy duty timing belt too - both are only 35000ish kms old. no issues at all.

Does the impeller fit in the housing?

Ive fitted a number burso rb30 pumps in rb25 and whatever else motors and they fit fine...except that bolt hole (i know the one). i had my doubts at first whether it would leak but no you just do em up no probs. obviously a bit or aero sealant (otherwise known as that brown sticky stuff that never solidifies ((loctite 3a)) or similar stag or indian) never goes astray but it will be fine.

Thanks guys,

I took the info printed out and the pics to Bursons, (They put it in their books lol), They got me in the correct pump (Japanese one too) retailed at $250.00, they gave it to me for $90.00 so cant complain,, but yer man, the info was a saviour,,

And as for the other pumps and belt,, I sold the car to my Brother and am looking for another one,, prefer a GTR this time, so I may be in touch,,,

    • There's probably an underlying issue with the A/C system too. I recently fixed mine, now it's fully control by the Haltech and car's factory HVAC controller  Have a squiz here:
    • And by the way, I've also checked the ECU diagnostic numerous times and got a bad O2 sensor code and initially an Ignition Primary code, which is why I replaced the O2 sensor and all the ignition components (coil packa, plug and loom). No codes have been coming up lately despite the ongoing issue.
    • Hey pber13, unfortunately still no luck. At this point the following has been done with little or no success: - Spark plugs replaced, gapped to 0.8mm - Splitfire coilpacks installed to replace originals - Replaced Ignition Coil/Coilpack harness with a new genuine nissan one - New fuel filter - Replaced AFM/MAF sensor - Injectors have been thoroughly cleaned with an online flush (without removing) - Upper engine and inlet decarbed - blew tons of black smoke out, cleared the carbon deposits from the top of the engine and exhaust.  - IACV removed and thoroughly cleaned with carburettor cleaner - O2 sensor replaced with new and genuine one -  Smoke test revealed no vacuum leaks - Healthy compression test of 160psi across all 6 cylinders Overall the car does run a lot smoother now, no backfires between gear shifts like it did originally... but the rough idle when warmed up is still there. It may not even be a misfire but simply a rough idle. Seems crazy to me that so many people have had this issue and seemingly no one has gotten to the bottom of it, or at least never bothered to post if they did! Hope you have more luck than I did pber13, I'm at a point now where I'm just going to try to ignore it unless it gets worse. Would love to fix it but I've genuinely run out of ideas of what it could be.
    • I got the full frenchys kit too. Really awesome kit. Easy to install my only complaint was the hardlines I think could be routed differently (I modified mine) but I realise the kit needs to suit multiple applications. This was the hard lines before I modified them. They were touching the wastegate pipe. I ended up reducing the distance between firewall and first bend. The made it so they tucked along the frame rail.
    • Deeve, I don't suppose that you've made any progress on this? My Stagea has the exact same problem, and just like you, I've read through as much as I can online, with no real progress. My car isn't throwing any codes at all, which is a little frustrating. I've changed plugs, checked the wiring and harness. A new MAF gets here next week, but I'm not hopeful it will solve the issue.
