Guys,

I have made the choice to build a car, at the moment my leading choice is a R32 GTST and I plan on putting a RB25 in it. Stage 1 is just getting it running so thats all im aiming for at the moment.

I know there are heaps of tutorials online and I plan on using these but what I want to know is the following.

1. Costs, I dont know the costs of things. I already have an engine that I am planning on purchasing for a good price and its in good condition.

What about items like a R33 Gearbox, ECU, Coilpacks, Loom and all other bits to get the car going.

2. Shell. Now i need a rolling shell preferably I dont care if it doesnt have an engine or not id be looking at spending $3000 or so for the shell the quality of the shell is of upmost importance, How often do 32 gtst shells come up for sale? If so where is the best place to look. Is there any other hidden things i need to know.

I plan on doing all the work myself maybe getting the aid of a friend.

This will be taking place over the next 6months to 1 year. So its a long time coming and ill be getting bit by bit as I can.

Any advice would be apprecieated.

1. me personaly picked up halfcut around 80,000km perfect comp test results for 3.5, for motor/box probably 2.5

2. i picked up a complete 93 gtst with rb20 / box just removed for 3g. came with another rb20 and heaps of spares, look for repairable right offs or people who blew the 20. or Na's or autos etc.

3. im doing all the work myself on my conversion, trying to put a few rumors to rest / trial a few more ideas.

- r33 cross members / lcas etc.

- mating the two looms

- etc.

Ive been working on mine since Jan, sourced shitloads of parts before i really got stuck into it. Motor is ready for turbo to be bolted on, gearbox waiting on seals. and Chassis waiting on welding repair etc. Then off to paint. Your budget will blow out. Ive already reached mine and i havnt done paint yet or got it on the road or running... lol Heaps of my mates have helped out. astrotristan, funkymonkey, redsuns f**king bludgers tho, ahha best to just do bits and pieces every day after work and on weekends. Leave the rb25 stock standard, untill you've got everything sorted out before you modify. While the motor is out i recoment 100,000 km servie. cam seals, front oil seal, rear seal and gearbox seals. saves heatache down the track cause its a nissan, and there a flamin mongrel to work on.

and you'll need all the time and money you can grab at.

msn: [email protected], if u got ne questions on the process. just to let you at ease, im a sparky and have never touched a car in my life before i started this ^^^ apart from general servicing. So anyone can do it really :P

cheers, and have fun

- once done.

need paint, once that's done it'll be up and running within the month of paint.

if i get postponed from work for this month... f**king recession. she'll be done before you know it.

taking so long cause I "don't cut corners" even if im "out of budget"

sourced alot of my parts through PCE Performance (there a trader on here) and have been very impressed with the product / service. Hit them up if you need gear.

take care,

D

Yea i plan on doing it slowly.

No point rushing to get it going then just having to pull stuff out later. I want to respray the car so I will be completely stripping everything out and cleaning it up getting it ready for painting whilst doing that I will be collecting other GO bits for it.

At least I have a good engine to go into it at the moment. I think ill hunt for a Gearbox next then save for the shell. What do you think?

And yes im 100% committed to this, I dont care if it takes 1.5 years to finish I dont care if it takes 2, ill have the car and once its done it will be mostly all my work.

Now ive been reading the whole conversion threads and I notice Ill need to get a shortend tail shaft if I want to use a 25 Box? The 20 box will work BUT wont it break later on as the 25 has more power?

Yes done it....still working out if the money was well spent, could have had a seriously tuff 20 with the money I have spent on my worked 25.

Get a front cut if you are going to do it.

    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
    • Stock O2 sensors are narrowband. They're useless once you're away from stoich. IE, useless for what you're trying to do. 10:1 will read the same as 14:1 from the stock O2 sensors. That is, they'll read rich. The same level of rich.
