Running In Engines

So a friend of mine just bought herself a brand new RAV4, and will have it for a total of three weeks before she was planning on driving it to SA from Melbourne (1500km round trip). Just a quick question, if it's new new, and she would still need to run in the engine properly, bed in the brakes etc, is it a good idea to tow a boat almost to Adelaide or not?

Do u mean is it a good idea to tow a boat with the new car? And yes, if it is a brand spankin new engine u will need to rin it in properly, dont think towing should be a problem, as you wont be revving the crap out of it

hmm ok, welll wen I did mine in I had to pretty much stay off boost for about 1000km's. I did I didnt baby it too much though, just drove long distances and in different conditions

Yeah, that's what i mean. She'll still be running in the engine at that stage, I was unsure it towing a boat, motors and all our race gear across the country would be a good idea on an un-run motor.

nah dnt think its a bad idea, its jus a bit of extra weight,, wont mess the engine up

If I had an owners manual for sure, but seeing as it came out of a conversation we had the other night, and she's not scheduled to take delivery of the car (and by extension, the aforementioned owners manual) for another week. I thought it might be a good idea to ask around here, figuring someone would have an idea on the answer.

Most cars off the shelf are already run in at factory.

Different story for those who do a re-build - but brand new generally don't need running in.

Thats my take on it.

It was advised when we got the 300c srt 8 that it didnt need running it, as it was run in from factory. =)

Umm well a guy i know with a recently rebuilt RB25DET NEO motor is having to run it at a 4000rpm limiter and keep off boost for the first 2000km?

yeah thats what my rebuilder tols me to do,,but for 1000kms till the first service. was the most boring week ever

everybody has mixed opinions on this, factory engines are pre-run in so just get into it. Im also a believer of the harder you drive it the better it performs as mentioned earlier.

As for running in built engines, this is how i ran in mine.

      Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
