Hi all,

Currently trying to get the oil filter of cheff stageas wags for him and it seems as if theirs a bracked or something on the side/next to it that stops it from comming loose?

Is this correct if so whats the go with removing it to change the oilfilter?

Its a stock setup no filter relocation kit or anything :(

Chris, if you can't get it off, remove all the oil and just stab the filter with a screw-driver or something for more leverage. It's probably on way too tight, it should only be on hand-tight, with just enough pressure so it doesn't leak or come loose.

Yeah looking at some diagrams today its the oil pressure sender... Did you pull it to remove your filter before you got your relocater hugh?

Never thought id post a topic on how to remove an oil filter...

avoid punching a screw driver through it if you can. I have done it before when I've got the shits with an overtight filter and once when some clown installed a filter with the wrong thread but it's very, very messy and even worse it means if you still can't get it off you're not going anywhere as you now have a nice hole (or 2) in your oil filter.

you can get a strap type tool which is quite good, or if there is room you can use the tool with the fingers on it that you operate with a ratchet. sometimes a small sqaure of that non-slip stuff you use to open jars etc can work too. make sure your turning it the right way too! sounds silly but I know blokes who've gotten disoriented and been wanging it up tighter and wondering why it wouldn't come off...

+1 on the seatbelt material oil filter removers. they grip VERY well and only get tighter the harder you turn them. mine has a 1/4 socket on the end so on problematic cars i put my ratchet on it

yep, hence why I said "if there is room to use one". sadly on so many 90s turbo jap cars there is not enough room to turn one in there. you may find it easier to jack the car up or put it on a hoist and get at it from underneath though.

I had a fairly small metal strap type that had dimples in the strap to help it grip. The bastard in the stew was the fuel filter and the hose clamps with sharp sticky out bits. No joke when you are my age the skin is a lot thinner and small scratches cause a LOT of bleeding. Thats why I now have the relocater. On another thread I read about changing the fuel filter, so with the locater on top near the fuse box, I am going to relocate the fuel filter.

Life with a Stagea aint easy, but is a lot of..........something.

You should not have to remove it. Mine is an S1 so the sender only sends a signal to a dash light. Pressure senders are usually a lot bigger in diameter, buy I cant see Nissan being that stupid.

Incidently when I put in the relocater I in corporated an oil pressure and temperature sender, so now I have a three gauge cluster where the single din head unit is. All fits nice an neat and functional.

stab a screwdriver THROUGH the oil filter and use that to crack it loose, then undo it with your hands. when u change the oil filter, get DRiFT one or a K&N one, they have a 1" nut on the top for next time :nyaanyaa:
