Hello all;

My front brake pads are worn and need replacing, and my discs have sign of some wear so i guess need to machine them also.

Well my question is what kind of brake pads should i get? Nissan stock ones, or aftermarket ones? What do guys use and how much should i expect to spend?

I rang nissan today and was told that stock ones are $135, also was told that they are same as 200sx ones...is this so?

if someone can give any ideas on what i should get, considering car is street only, and how much i should expect to spend, and where i can get them (melbourne) i would be very grateful.

Thanks

It all comes down to what you want to use the car for.

You can get bendix ultimates for about 100 an end which will perform better than the stockers but i've found they don't have much initial bite.

RB74s for 150 which i have and am happy with (except for the dust) which perform nicely all round for hard street work.

Then there's green stuff which doesn't get a good writeup, endless, etc and the price goes up.

200sx, r32, r33, z32 all use the same size pad (basically anything with a 4 pot sumitomo caliper)

hope thats helpful.

You've used Ultimates and you still call the RB74's dusty? :D They do have a bit of dust, but I would say 1/10th than what the Ultimates have. With the RB74's I have to wash my wheels once every couple of months instead of once a week.

Oh yeah definitely. Slots will carve up your pads quicker than normal so you'd get more dust with them. I feel sorry for anyone with Ultimates and slotted rotors, probably need to clean their wheels by the time they get to the top of their driveway! :D

The amazing thing is the rears go black with dust nearly as quick as the front! Gives the wheels that black chrome look, and think some people pay good money for that. They will be filthy after 300-400km. And when you hit them with the hose a stream of black filth washes down the driveway, easily the dustiest brake pad I have ever used.

I'm using the DBA4000 + RB74's + Comp2's on my car and even after driving to Wakefield Park and back they are still extremely clean. Not too sure what this setup will be like when I hit EC after everything gets alittle warm but im happy with it all so far.
