Let's say I am buying an OEM carbon fibre boot lid and that I want to mount a wing on it eventually. Will drilling holes in carbon fibre cause damage to it? Like cracking? Loosening the weave?

How much lighter is dry carbon compared to wet carbon? Can the price difference be justified?

What does everyone think of Sniper Racing carbon fibre products?

Cheers.

I've drilled holes through my Vertex carbon fibre canards to fit them and was amazed how easy it is to drill through it. Havn't seen any signs of damage.

I think you'll be fine.

If you get the boot post up pics, only ones i've seen installed are the full flat carbon fibre boots that get rid of the spoiler like this:

Always wanted to see what a carbon one would look like with the factory series II wing on it.

The carbon boots weigh about 5kg, any one know what a stock boot weighs? It woudln't be too much more would it?

Thanks mate, that saves me from buying everything at once. I plan to get a carbon fibre GT-R wing with a carbon fibre Garage Defend blade mounted on top of that.

But that setup being so expensive ($1,800 just for the GT-R support in carbon fibre) I might opt for just a GT wing or a lip. I do like those flush boots but I got quoted $1,400 for one. Wouldn't mind one if I could get it cheaper?

I currently have a GT-R wing on mine and it weighs a tonne. It takes a lot of effort just to open it. So five kilos will be dreamy haha!

just keep in mind, i work with this shit everyday, the best drill to use when drilling ur hole is a spade drill. there the ones that are like a triangle on the tip. preferably dont use a normal drill bit as this can cause ripping of the fibres around the hole and then make it look shit.

when u plan to get your spoiler, msg me if u want and i can come out to give u a hand as far as drilling with the right bits and using a reamer to leave a clean cut. also have sealants that are for carbon fibre to stop the hole leaking any water into the boot or have the exposed carbon absorb water.

Thanks mate. I remember those drill bits in wood work in high school. Good times.

yeh those ones, use that to do ur drilling. they come in all diff sizes, use a 1/4" one for bolts and go easy, dont force the drill through or you'll get break out on the underside. once drilled, use some scotch brite on the under side to clean the hole
