Hi all, can someone help. I have a 4 door r33 GTST and my horn goes off 90% of the time when i turn a corner. Its sooo embarassing, i went to the shops the other day and some poor old lady was loading up her shopping in the boot of her car and as i turned to park behind her the horn went off, i swear she had a heart attack. She went off at me hahaha, i calmed her down and told her the problem and she ended up in fits of laughter at me telling me to get it fixed. I just dont want to get pulled over by the cops for undue horn noise. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be great ta, as i have read the topic from 2004 and it wasnt much help.

same thing happened to me the morning of last years new years eve... left a party at like 7am... made a LOT of enemies

I found out that the plastic holders that hold the metal weights in place to balance the steering wheel had broken and the metal weight was earthing the horn, making it go off...

can you hear a rattling in your steering wheel at any time?

Bingo!

You can take it out if you want, just don't get yourself into any drift comps :(

Steven, out of curiousity ... and purely because I haven't a clue ... what are the weights in the steering wheel for?

Apparently to make it uniformly balanced.

They don't, and the standard wheel is shit... it's not even mounted perfectly in the centre!

But to be honest I'm just fussy :(

CHEERS !!! ill give it a go just dc the battery now ...... i had to go get the tamper proof bit tho and that was a headache in itself grrr

am i able to maybe use some electrical tape to hold it in place ?? I know its dodgy but it might be a bandaid job for now.

So how do i get it fixed properly ??

Buy a new steering wheel would be the proper fix, but taping it up and putting the airbag back on will be a good enough fix that you probably own't ever think of it again

Maybe check out some info on taking the steering wheel off cause it can cause airbag and HICAS errors if you do it wrong. Point of advice, don't connect the battery while you'r doing it at any point, make sure it's all back together when the battery goes back on.

I don't think it dampers, it would seem a bit weird to put weights in an already heavy steering wheel just for that...

Dont quote me on this, as I dont know for sure (and dont even own a R33) but I heard if you disconnect the airbag with the battery connected the light will come on and never go off.

That would sound right in any car with a airbag i would say. As it would be saying there is either 1. a problem with the airbag that needs to be checked by a pro, or 2. it has gone off and needs to be replaced/reset by a pro.

So if you disconnect the battery, the ECU or whatever wont be running to detect if it has or hasn't been tampered with.

I had this issue when I put a aftermarket steering wheel on my old car.

Turned the wheel and the horn stayed on.

One night, I turned out of BP on Brighton road, and beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep went the horn and I had a bunch of guys in BP come out and were screaming at me and started running after my car! It was crazy!

And trying to park in shopping centres, yeah that was fun. Especially in the under-cover car parks haha.
