Maybe a newbie question but a search didn't turn up anything useful:

How do you change the oarking light globe? I had a dig around and it looks as though I either have to pull off the whole front bar or pull out the plastic guard liner just to get at the globe holder? Is there an easier way?

short answer. No. :D

I did it through the wheel arch and removed the liners.

I think you could also do it by removing the airbox on the passanger side and the removing the washer bottle on the drivers.

Oh, and make sure your hands are flexible..... Good luck

Cheers

Andy

i did a whole HID conversion without removing the front bar or wheel liners :D

yes i have flexible hands. and i remove the airbox/afm and moved the overflow bottle

seriously?! I don't even have the airbox and i reckon i'd struggle toget my fingers in there.

Just pop out those plastic fasteners towards the front of the wheel arch and unscrew the screw that is at about 9-10 o'clock (if looking at the wheel arch as a clock face).

Pull the arch liner away enough to get your hand in there.

Feel around for the parker connector (helps to look for it first to get a general idea), turn anti-clockwise and pull out.

Chuck in your LED with wedge connection (T10?), do everything up.

Should take ~10mins all up.

wish i had seen this post earlier today! I f@*#ed around for 1/2 hour this arvo, pulled the plastic fastener out, spent fruitless minutes trying to feel/get to the parker, failed.

pulled the bolt off the headlight assembly, couldn't remove it, tried to get my hand in, failed.

went back to liner, turned wheel full lock to get it out of the way, thought I could feel the light (hadn't removed said screw cause didn't know it F@*$ing existed), turned, failed.

Gave up, went inside to have a drink! :ninja:

Well that was fun... not.....

LED lights now installed and looking closer in colour to the HID headlamps... Took about 30 minutes to do both, but have removed skin on both hands...

but if the bulbs blow, they ain't coming out...

This is not a job for 6'4" people with large hands...

I found the easiest way to the back of the light unit is to use an hacksaw blade and cut away the f/glass moulding which blocks you getting your hand down to the lights. It doesn,t destoy the structural integretity of the moulding and certainly stops a lot of swearing, just saw between the excisting holes and clean up the edges with a file, makes life oh so easy.

enough time has passed so I might try again. I'll happily take a hacksaw to the b%$*dard.

Are you sure you don't want to leave it for another 7 months? :P

No real need for hacksaws mate (a bit dramatic IMO  )

It helps to look in fro the top but to reach in from the side (if your arms are long enough)

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure
    • A Brumby would probably fit a big metal toolbox in the back... this is how it begins
    • Picked up a new OEM boot seal for the MX5 today as the old one got ripped a bit by me being a idiot by seeing if I could fit a large metal tool box in it, it didn't fit, and ripped the seal with the corner of the tool box I am still waiting on time to get the cams and new balancer installed, as well as the repairs to the boot Time will not be an issue soon though
