unusual tyre wear

Guest skylinegirl

hi guys,

i have a problem with my R33, the right rear tyre is wearing on the inside,im only getting 10,000k,s out of it maximum. All my tyres wear on the inside but i can get 20,000k,s out of the rest of them which im told is normal for performance tyres.Ive had new shocks installed in the rear as the right one was stuffed,i thought that may have been the reason for the unusual wear but it wasnt.I had a wheel alignment done after the shocks were installed and the last set of new tyres and i still got wear on the right rear, ive taken it back to wheel alignment guys and they dont think its anything to do with the wheel alignment. Can anyone help me as to what may be the problem????

............Thanks

Toe angle can be a major culprit here. Negative camber will affect tyre wear slightly, but not nearly as much as bad toe. I wore mine down to the steel belts before I noticed! I was keeping an eye on the outside edges of my tyres which was still almost brand new, then when I took my car in for tuning, my mechanic said "you know about your tyres being worn down to the belts don't you?" "NO!?" Had a look when it was on the hoist, fark!!!!! The front tyres had gone from new to dangerous in about 8000km.

It could also be worn suspension bushes (causing your toe to fluctuate). How are they doing your wheel alignment? With lasers or strings? And are they doing a 4 wheel alignment or just front?

If there was something wrong with your suspension, surely they would have picked it up while doing to '4 wheel' alignment. Take it elsewhere & get a second opinion. Last time I got mine done was at Pedders - 4 Wheel Alignment cost ~$100.00, they checked my car out before doing the alignment, plus they had white papers on what the correct figures should be (camber, castor, toe) all the skylines (32,33,34). Good luck with it.

Cheers,

C.

Yes it certainly should be there. Let me know what they are and I can tell you if that is the problem. Even if u do have a problem with the suspension it should show up on the alignment.

If you cant figure it out let me know and I will get a fax number you can send it to so that I can have a look and see what it says.

Goodyear at Castle Hill do a fantastic 4 wheel alignment with lasers, and it only costs $60. They are familiar with Skylines too, they can get it up on the ramps even if you have a really low front bar (like I do ) It's a major hike even for me but they're open Saturdays and worth the effort.

Hmm there is certainly nothing hugely wrong there. 1degree neg camber is not a big concern thats for sure and 2mm toe is nothing massive either. All looks good there. You may need to get it done again just to make sure that it is right but looking at that all looks good. A rear camber kit may help marginally butif those readings are correct then really it is not going to improve things much. Other than suggesting getting another alignment done just to be sure I don't have much to offer. Sorry.

Mick.
