heyy fellas.

ive overclocked my E2180 to 2.40ghz and my HIS ATI Radeon2600xt to 840mhz engine and 940mhz memory.

after achieving these clocks im finding games run much smoother on the next graphic detail setting which is what i was after, but at random times usually after a hour or so of fallout 3 on High or S.T.A.L.K.E.R soc on extreme settings my computer will completly lock up! and need restarting :(

GC o\c achieved by CCC

cpu o\c via bios only changing the frequency. (cant adjust voltage on my mobo)

cpu usually runs while gaming 30deg max and im pretty sure the gpu gets up to 55deg.

so my questions are :

are these temps acceptable?

after futher "burning in" of the chips can i expect these lockups to go away?

any other info greatly appreciated,

Cheeers :P

What ram are you using?

Did you adjust your FSB:DRAM ratio so that your Ram isn't OCed together with your CPU?

If you can't up your Voltages then consider dropping the OC a bit on the CPU. As depending on the luck of the draw your particular CPU probably needs a bump up in voltage.

My Q6600 OCed to 3Ghz needed a small bump in voltage.

Also what mobo are you using? Whats the stock speed for a 2600xt?

hey man,

its old school ddr400... geil 2x 1g in duel channel, running at cl 2.5,4,4,8. and FSB:DRAM 5:4. although i dont completly understand o/cing ram....

the stock pwr of the gc is Gpu: 820mhz mem: 730mhz.

the mobo is a Asrock 775i65g-R2. getting on now so thats why ive turned to OCing to squeeze some betetr gaming outa it.

Cheers!

when logging with gpuz over clocked the card got to 60deg once, then it froze, that was only after about 20mins of fallout3. standard clocks i can platy for almost double but if you check the log ive attatched it crashes around 58deg. im kinda convinced its the GPU since with differnt mobos people have got the e2180 to 3.7ghz on air cooling!! stragly the gpu fan wont go over 61%?? is there a way in CCC or another program where i can speed it up?

cheers.

do this.

1. Download FurMark

2. Install/setup

3. Rename furmark.exe to "abc.exe"

4. Run abc.exe

Run it in torture/stress mode.

If your issue is the GPU thats the best way to tell IMO as its a GPU only test where some games could be CPU related.

You must rename the EXE though as ATi limit the cards via drivers to the furmark test so they perform 'better'.

Furmark will get the card to temp in about... 2-3mins if that ;)

Then download Riva Tuner. Forget using CCC from there forward.

Riva will let you set the fanspeed to 100% manually and even see what values will alter the fan speed.

Then try Furmark again and see what happens

You sure the fan isnt blocked possibly? cleaned it all out? Ensured the fan/heat sink is screwed to the card correctly... they can come loose. I have a ATi card delivered about 3-4 weeks ago that was VERY loose and needed a bit of tightening.

When you say twice as long at normal clocks - is still locking up? What about if you underclock the card a little? (via riva tuner)

end of the day if the GPU is causing it to crash, fk all you can do short of buying a better one. Ebay you should find a few $50-$80 cards that will be better than what you have

actually after playing for a few hours with the card over clocked and the cpu back to standard it hasnt crashed once? might have to look out for some voltage software because i cant alter voltage of the cpu with this mobo.

or buy a more powerful cpu ;)

hey r31, just read your post!

as above, i think it still must be cpu related now because my cards fan speed is adjusted automaticly via temp senser.

do u know any voltage control software? otherwise i guess its new cpu time.

if you cant alter the voltage - what makes you think another CPU will do?

If the mobo is limited in vcore - no CPU will save you, new mobo time

well, to increase voltage to hopefully make it more stable, no if i got a better cpu i wouldnt have to adjust the voltage. id just have a more powerful one without the need to oc

not all CPU's run the same voltage dude :P

Depends if the mobo is reading it and auto-adjusting or not.

do you know if there is a BIOS update/hack for your mobo that allows you to do v.core etc etc?

im aware of that man

yeah thats what im trying to find out? use a third party software so i can adjust it.

if not ill just bite the bullet n get a e5200 or some shit... its a aged pc im surprized it even plays f3! haha

well, you might be able to get a program like Set FSB that might work and so on.

There are a fair few around the net. Check techpowerup.com and guru3d - those places contain most of the decent downloadable apps

I still reckon check what version BIOS you have, and then the manufacturers site and see if there is an update - OR - if someone has made thier own BIOS in which they have unlocked a few 'locked' settings.

Or perhaps your mobo have a 'trick' locked setting mode, in which case you can unlock it by some keystrokes in the BIOS page (again, google homework for you)

    • What HVAC actuator is under the steering wheel? Do you mean on the RHS of the centre console, immediately to the left of your shin? If so, then yes, it is probably that one, because that is the mode door actuator, and from what I know, it's still a pain in the arse to replace. I don't know about whole dash out, but you certainly have to rip into the centre console section. I don't know if it's covered in the workshop manual, as I haven't spent much time looking at those parts of it. (and by "the workshop manual, I mean the R32 GTR one, which is the most comprehensive one we have, and it should be similar enough between that and later cars to serve as a guide).
    • ...oops. forgot the TCU end...
    • No I got mine from a friend that had fabricated one … but I had to fit it to my setup which was a hks turbo setup. His was a Garrett -7. So one of my turbos was not a flange for one side … then I had a leak in the welds I had to find a weld shut … in the end the setup was decent priced but I spent a lot to get it fitted. A couple companies I checked would make it but you’re talking 7-9k aud with titanium. No joke mine was 6-7k even second hand after I had to fit it in Hong Kong … labour is expensive here.
    • I'd just like to restate that I don't think anyone here is actually hating I recently sold a car part to a guy who was building a forged auto R34, with MV stall and aiming at ~450kw. I told him that I'm him, from the future and to stop after it explodes once. I told him I knew he won't listen the first time, and that's fine. But if my predictions do come true - Change direction faster than I did. I also said it's probably no coincidence that the dyno plot of a reliable turbo engine starts to look a lot like a N/A motor. :p
    • Got just the wing painted and fitted up to the existing boot. Big visual change and about time after having a GTR wing sitting in the shed since 2018 Headed up to Mallala with a quick obligatory stop in at Boliver OTR Oil control mods seems to have worked. I checked the catch can after session 1 and there was a dribble of water/e85 with barely any oil in it. After session 2 and 3 there was almost nothing and I stopped checking after that. so either great success or catastrophic failure/block of the external breather The GTR wing made a noticeable difference in the 160-185km/h sweepers. It was a very hot day for the cars at over 33C but the previously done cooling upgrade/ducting/water sprayers meant I never saw over 60C intake, 105C water and 100C oil and temps would drop back down very quickly once I shut it down. AD09's are a decent tyre but certainly and expectedly a step down when compared the the CR-S/AR-1 I have had on the car for years of track days. The handling characteristics of my car which I often describe using the Tony Hawks Pro Skater balance mechanic where either side of the center is understeer/oversteer was much more pronounced with no "green/safe" zone in the middle. However, imo it steers well/easily during oversteer largely thanks to the custom ACOSTAL front end. Enjoy a loose lap POV with my mate giggling away as a passenger.   Group photo for Peer Pressure Racing made it back home and gave it a wash Overall a great success compared to my previous two track days where i cooked the Starlets motor and blew up the new diff in the R32
