Just wondering if, when a cop does a registration check, does the database they use tell them if the persons driving a vehicle they're not allowed to?

For example if ur riding a motorbike, a 250 and it's classed as a high powered 250 and they rego check it, will they have a message pop up saying that i'm not allowed to ride it? Or do they just go on their knowledge of bikes and what i can/cant ride

cheers

id think its the info on who's name the bike is under.

Ive always wondered how it works cos ive seen many a police car checking my rego while my car is parked. Perhaps checking for black flags against it? anyone care to shed some light?

they have a list/booklet about it.

no doubt they carry it when on patrol.

you can expect traffic cops to basically memorise it, being that predominately is their forte, normal police perhaps not and in which case will consult the reference material

I was driving my old RX7 turbo manual on my P plates with an auto license (I know), got pulled over but the cops never said anything about me not being able to drive it. Maybe I was lucky.

geelong is different

i would put it in your dads name, take the p's down, make the car look mature and have a good beard.... i know for a fact that they check licence conditions before pulling you over so i assume they would check the cars too. also de-badge it.

^^ yes i think you were just lucky.

It all depends if the car has a black blag which tell the cop that the owner of the vehicle cannot drive it which is the case for one of my mates

+1. I know a vehicle of mine has been flagged.

as for determining the who's and whys- if its in your name then they pull your details and check it against your licence- if you are in the wrong then you are toast. worst case they tow it best case you are told to go home (and you car gets an invisible flag.)

i was followed by highway police on the hume a while back, had my Red Pplates up but my car is in my mums name.

im sure they would have ran a rego check whilst following me but didnt do a thing even when they sat next to me to see the driver so i guess i was lucky in that case, but yeah put your rego in someone elses name :D .

does anyone know more about this black flag thing?

how do you end up with one, is it on the rego or connected with your licence?

cheers

Gezza

Ive got a 33 gts with Just car my insuro was only $1600 but I did hav the $800 adjust excess on that...but it takes into account how long u've had the licence, mods, value of the car...the excesses are normally the worst part if u hav an accident

Guessing by your question your riding a bike your not ment to.. So you run that risk they run the rego and it shows the registered owner but if you have been pulled up before with that vehicle your name will also come up as a known driver. Black flags are just like records of past major offences you don't get one if you get pulled over for breath test but if I fine is issued it will be logged.

ah ok cool, just curious, shouldn't be that hard to get away with at all on a bike, doubt many traffic cops have the bike models memorised, they're a bit of a grey area anyway, theres no specific capacity specific restrictions anymore (can ride 400's and some 650's etc) could be in trouble if get pulled over by a bike cop tho

Surprised there computer system doesn't automatically tell them if ur not allowed

Taking your P-Plates off in Vic is a fine and THREE DEMERITS.

Add that to driving illegally, thats 6 demerits and an instant loss of license on the spot. Not very smart.

JustCars covers p-plates with turbo cars

Anyone can insure anything mate. A P-Plater can insure a Lambo Gallardo for all it matters.

Does it mean that will be covered in the event the actually drive it? Probably not.

By driving a known banned/restricted car you are therefore driving illegally

EG: If you hit say a $250,000 Porsche and write it off, you might find that they will not honour your claim as technically you were driving illegally which is no different to driving over the alcohol limit, drugged and so on.

IMO a small/minor claim insurance probably isnt going to care to much but if it’s a reasonable amount I would expect them to come looking for a reason not to pay you out.
